Hello there. I am Troy, a regular high school student attending a regular high school. I am rather taciturn, and I always have my head covered by my sweatshirt's hood. I feel really uncomfortable when it comes to light, especially from the sun. Because of all this, I'm someone no one pays any attention to, and I realize I'm not extraordinary in any way.

That's why I never expected what would happen over the course of the next couple of days...

"So, do you believe in... vampires?"

"Vampires? Pfft, no way, man!"

I was sitting with a group of my peers at a table in the cafeteria during lunch. I don't engage in any conversations, but I don't mind listening to them. They have some interesting things to say sometimes.

"So, you know the creepy park near the school? There was this one guy who took a shortcut through it and was assaulted!"

"S-seriously?!"

"Yeah, apparently he had a bite mark on his neck, and lost a lot of blood."

"Y-you mean... like a vampire?"

"Yup!"

I go through that park all the time, but I've never seen a vampire there before...

All of a sudden, everyone went silent. This is normal during lunchtime; as this is the time when she would appear.

"It's Ultaen, the most beautiful girl in school!"

She walked through the room, her gorgeous navy-black hair blowing through the slight breeze coming from the windows.

A girl like that is the exact opposite of me. There's no way she'd ever pay attention to me...

And then, for some reason, she stopped suddenly, like something had caught her attention. Her lovely smile had changed to a blank expression.

I wonder what's wrong?

That's when it happened. Suddenly, she shifted her head in my direction.

I-is she... looking at me?

She had a shocked look on her face, and it was like she was staring directly into my soul...

But after a couple of seconds, she turned her head back in front of her, and moved on like nothing had happened.

I wonder if I just imagined that... I mean, what would she want with me?

"Dude, I think she was checking me out just now!" One of the guys at my table said.

"Like, no way, dude!"

Apparently I wasn't imagining things, after all...

After school, I went home through my usual shortcut home: the "creepy" park. There is barely any shade the normal way home, and it's too bright during the summertime for me to handle.

So because of that, I had to ignore the rumors about the vampire. Even if there was one, it would probably not care about someone like me, anyway.

Or that's what I thought...

"Hold it, you." A girl called out to me, sitting in a tree.

"W-what?"

The girl jumped down from the tree, and although she jumped from high up, she made it down effortlessly. As she walked toward me, I realized she was a familiar face.

"W-wait, aren't you... Ultaen?!"

"I've been looking for you..."

"M-me?! Are you serious? What for?"

"After all this time, we can finally reunite... Straus..."

"Um, 'Straus'? I'm sorry, you must have me confused with someone else..." Although I have no idea how there could possibly be someone that looks like me...

All of a sudden, her eyes turned red, and her front teeth became much sharper.

"W-wait! You're... a vampire?!"

She moved toward me again. She grabbed my shoulders so hard I couldn't break free. ... Which didn't really matter because I was too afraid to move, anyway.

"P-please, don't bite me...! I-I have hem-..."

BITE!
