Long ago, there was an epidemic that swept the CS Region. CS-mon, powerful creatures that roamed the land, became angry and went out of control. They began to do things that endangered the lives of the regional people, and would have soon become a problem for the other regions...

But the people of the CS Region didn't want to lose hope. They tried to fight back, but they were unable to hold off the CS-mon with their own power. They had no choice but to turn to the witches, who were once considered sworn enemies to humans.

"Give us a proper place to live," they said immediately to them. "Then we may help you." The humans reluctantly agreed. They then went to an unpopulated region and built a town there for them to live. That region was from then on known as Htrae.

Seeing the town the humans had built for them, they said: "We thank you for finally giving us a peaceful place to live. But we still do not entirely trust you. So we will only give our power to your unborn children."

From that day forward, children called CS-Summoners (or CSumores for short) were born. With the witches' power, they were able to tame the CS-mon and use their power as their own. But would they use the power wisely...?

Lou

"Today's finally the day." My friend Flam said, patting me on the back. "Ya nervous?"

"Yeah, a little."

"No surprise there. You may be smart, but your physical strength isn't much to sneeze at."

"Thanks, that makes me feel a whole lot better..."

"Hey, don't sweat it. I'm sure it'll be fine."

Today, we were getting our own CS-mon to command. All of us first-years have been studying a lot about them, but we'd never seen one in person before. Until today, that is. So you couldn't really blame me for being nervous.

CSumores aren't really needed much these days, but we couldn't be too careful. We surely didn't want the CS-mon to go crazy like a long time ago. However, there's still a lot I don't know about them...

"The best way to learn about the CS-mon is to interact with them in person." Our teacher told us. "So you will each summon a CS-mon into your designated plaques."

A student raised their hand. "How do we do that, sir?"

"All you must do is focus your mind while holding up your plaque." He took out a plaque. "I shall demonstrate." He held up the plaque in mid-air with his magic. "O my mind's CS-mon, I summon thee!" The plaque started to glow with a flash, then a round, yellow creature appeared on top of it.

Everyone sat there amazed. This was the first time we had seen a real live CS-mon before.

"This is called a Rolis; a fairly easy CS-mon to summon." The teacher continued. "I'm sure you can all summon a much stronger one than this." He then gave us a more intimidating look. "If you don't, then you fail this course! Is that understood?!"

"Yes, sir..." Everyone said, most of us not too happy about that last statement. As for me, it just made me even more nervous...

"Now I shall call up the first student to take their plaque." He took out his attendance sheet. "Miss Fael Erutan, Sir Flam Nitsubachi, Miss Akwa Enira. I'll start off with you three to give an example to the class."

Now in this kind of situation, you'd expect him to choose the three smartest students. However, it wasn't the case for them (excluding Enira). They all come from the families of renowed CSumores, so they were of course expected to do well. Because of this, they were also very popular.

"Miss Enira, you may go first." Our teacher instructed.

"Certainly, sir." She held out the plaque in front of her, focusing her mind. Like with the teacher, the plaque started to float. "O my mind's CS-mon, I summon thee!" And with that, a mermaid-like creature gracefully swam out of the plaque. It was surely a CS-mon that suit her best.

"Ah, a Merma Star. Most excellent, Miss Enira."

"Thank you, sir."

"Now then, I expect you all to do just as well as her. Understood?!"

Yeah, right. Not only is she from a renowed family, she was also the smartest student in our class. Heck, she was probably the smartest student in the whole school!

"You're next, Sir Nitsubachi."

Good luck, Flam. You'll certainly need it.

"Alright!" He said, as confident as usual.

Never nervous about anything; I had been envious of this attitude sometimes.

Flam levitated his plaque on his index finger and said, "O my mind's CS-mon, I summon thee!"

It's funny how different the same sentence can sound when someone else says it. Anyway, the CS-mon Flam got wasn't all that surprising, either.

From what I could tell, it was obviously a Fire-elemental. It was human-like, other than the fact that it was a bit smaller and had pale white skin. Its red hair (if you'd call it that) seemed to blend in with its skin. Its eyes were also a burning red and were half open. It scanned the room with those droopy eyes, although it didn't look like the curious type. It had rings of fire around its wrists and holes in its hands (most likely for shooting fire).

"Ah, a Flame Thrower. Most impressive."

"Flame Thrower? Cool." Flam patted its head, but it looked more annoyed than happy. Maybe they weren't such a great match-up after all...

"Miss Eruta-..."

"Finally! Is it my turn?!" Erutan said impatiently.

Out of all the CSumor families, Erutan's was probably the most renowed. Not only that, her family's the richest in the whole CS Region (excluding the king, of course). Although she's snooty, she's really popular with the guys. I don't like her very much, though.

"The day I've been waiting for has finally come..." She muttered. "O my mind's CS-mon, I summon thee!"

The CS-mon that came out of Erutan's plaque was flower-like. Like Flam's CS-mon, it was human-like, but it was much smaller (so small, it stayed on the plaque). It had petals around its petit body, and petals around its arms and legs. It had petal-like hair, and even petal-like feet. Its hands were however, human-like; like a baby's hands. All of its petals were different colors, which made it look pretty.

"A Petal Dancer, I see. Although small, it is very beautiful. It suits you well, Miss Erutan."

"T-thank you, sir." She seemed upset about something. I wonder what it was...?

"Alright, you may all take your seats." They did as they were told. "Now, I shall call the rest of you up by alphabetical order. I hope you are all prepared for this."

Seeing Enira, Flam, and Erutan go up kind of lifted my hopes a bit, but when I was called up, I got nervous again.

"Lou Senn, come up here."

I went up to the front of the class, mustering up all my courage. At least I didn't have to worry about pressure; I was the last student left.

"Hold up the plaque and recite the right words. I'm sure you know what they are by now."

"Yes, sir." I did what I was told. "O my mind's CS-mon, I summon thee!" ... Nothing happened. I waited a while, but still... nothing. "Um, sir..."

"Try again." The teacher looked really annoyed. Just great.

"O-okay." I held up the plaque with more force this time. "O my mind's CS-mon, I SUMMON THEE!!!"

I felt a giant surge of energy well up in the plaque I was holding. So much that I let go. But even after I did, it was still pulsating.

"What's going on? Did I break it?"

"What is this?!" It seemed like even the teacher didn't know what was going on.

Sparks started coming out of the plaque, startling some the students and their CS-mon.

"Everyone, evacua--..." Before our teacher could say anymore, the plaque calmed down. Then a CS-mon came out of it like the other ones did.

This CS-mon was much different then the others. Like a lot of the others, it was human-like, but it looked much more like a human then the rest. In fact, if it weren't for its wings and greenish skin, it could easily be mistaken as my little brother.

"Um, hello there." I said to it, nervously.

It just sat there, staring blankly at me. After not thinking it would do anything else, it proceeded to jump on top my head.

"Hey! Get off!" It ignored everything I said and stared around the room. That's all fine and dandy, but my head is not a chair!

Lucky for me, some of the girls got up and lifted him off my head. "He's sooo cute~!" They all said in unison. They all started to hug it, much to its dismay.

"It's going to be a problem if it won't listen to me." I sighed. Then I realized something. "Um, sir..." I turned to the teacher, who was looking through a book.

"Sir." I repeated, hoping I wasn't interrupting anything important.

"Lenn. What is it?" He said, finally looking towards me.

"What's the name of my CS-mon?"

"Well, you see..." He cleared his throat. "How should I put this..."

"I-is something wrong?"

"Your CS-mon... It is one that I have never seen before. There isn't even a record of it in this book."

"W-what?! Does that mean I summoned an undiscovered CS-mon?"

"No. It means that CS-mon you summoned... shouldn't even exist."

"Huh?!"

And from there, the girls finally stopped glomping my poor, strange CS-mon.

I went to my dorm room after class, pondering on what to do.

"I'll have a talk with the principal to see what to do about your CS-mon." The teacher said to me.

I had no idea what was going to happen tomorrow. I could end up with an award, or I could end up losing my chance to become a CSumor!

"Gah, I don't know whether I should be happy or sad right now! This is so confusing!"

And of course, my CS-mon just sat there, staring at me. At least he wasn't sitting on my head this time, though.

"Hey CS-mon, just what are you?"

He just tilted his head, like he couldn't understand what I was saying.

"Man, how am I supposed to take care of you? I don't know what you can do, or even what to call you..."

We just sat around for a while, then it flew on top of my bed to rest.

"... For now, I'll just call you Avi."
