SOS Alien
Written by CS-Masyet

Have you ever believed that aliens exist out there somewhere? Maybe there are some otherwordly beings traveling the cosmos, searching for life on other planets... It'd be neat if they happened upon Earth one day... and one of the first humans they came across happened to be you, right? What about meeting a time traveler from the future? They'd sure have some interesting stories to tell. But surely they wouldn't go blabbing about the future to just about anyone, lest they end up altering the timeline too much... So it'd be pretty awesome if you happened to be one of the few to get to hear their "classified information", right? What about espers? People with psychic powers, able to move things with their mind, and read people's most inner thoughts... Okay, maybe that one's not as fun as the others. I don't think I'd want some stranger to come up to me and learn about my most deepest, darkest secrets...

Anyways, thinking those sort of things are real is normal for a kid, right? At that point in your life, when you barely know anything about the world, you wonder what strange and interesting things could be out there, just out of your reach... Of course, once you grow up, and your knowledge of how the world really works becomes much more vast, you realize things like espers, time travelers, and even aliens existing is pretty unrealistic. Even if they did exist, what's the chance you'd ever get to meet one? Pretty much zero, no doubt. It's pretty normal to grow up giving up on any "chance encounter" ever happening. I, of course, am no exception to this. I dreamed about meeting things like aliens and time travelers all the time as a kid. However, I was a skeptical child, and I found out that kind of thing would never actually happen to me earlier in life than most, I think.

The legend of the "Tooth Fairy" is what did it for me. Small, magical beings flying into your room, taking your old teeth from under your pillow, and leaving some money behind in exchange? Puh-lease. As soon as I was possibly able to, I purposefully hid the truth about one of my fallen-out teeth from my parents one night, and when I saw that my tooth was still under my pillow the next morning, the jig was up. They didn't try to make up an excuse; they admitted to me that the Tooth Fairy wasn't actually real. I then realized that Santa Claus most likely wasn't real either. Or espers. Or time travelers. Or aliens, even. At that point, my life became a lot more disappointing...

Was I proud at what I'd done to myself? Of course not. I'd wished I had just took my parents word for it and accepted their Tooth Fairy story. But it's no big deal. I eventually got over it, and as a high schooler, I'm now in the same camp as all my other peers that also realized that this stuff doesn't exist anyway. Honestly, while I do think some interesting chance encounter with some otherworldly beings could be cool, I'm content with my "ordinary" life right now. As is everyone else my age...

... Well, that's not really true, actually. There is one guy I know...
