Ep.#02 - Ice Fishing for Chance

A few years ago, at Rise's elementary school...Teacher: Alright class, today is Valentine's Day! Did everyone remember to bring their cards to share with everyone?
Students: Yeah!
Abate: Not me! Valentine's Day is stupid! Right, Rise?
Rise: U-uh, yeah... (I completely forgot about Valentine's Day... Oh well, like anyone would give me a card anyway...) Walks away.
Abate: Where're you going?
Rise: For a walk... Sits in a corner in the classroom, behind a locker. (It's not like anyone cares about me...) *sigh*
Leelah: Walks up to him. Hey, Rise... What are you doing here by yourself?
Rise: Leave me alone...
Leelah: Here. Gives him a card.
Rise: Huh? For me?
Leelah: Uh-huh.
Neenah: Leelah, what are you doing over there? There are people who want to give cards to you!
Leelah: Oh, okay! Happy Valentine's Day, Rise! Walks away.
Rise: ... Reads the card.
"Happy Valentine's Day
- Love, Leelah"
Rise (blushing): ... (Leelah...) End flashback.
Jarr: Hey, Rise! You daydreaming?
Rise: H-huh? Oh, what'd I miss...?
Jarr: Nothing really. The teach's been yapping on about some "adventure" she had a long time ago...
Erovra: ...and that is how ice fishing saved me from that giant killer tuna! Any questions?
Rise: I have one. Why aren't we ice fishing yet?!? It's freezing out here!
Erovra: Oh, that's right! We were supposed to be ice fishing! Okay, here you go everyone! Gives everyone a fishing pole. Now choose a spot and start fishing!
Leelah: Oh, look! There are already spots made for us!
Rise: (Why are they shaped so weirdly...?)
Jarr: I call the the fish-shaped one! Runs to the frozen lake.
Leelah: Look, Rise! Those two holes are right next to each other!
Rise: Yeah... (And they're the only normal looking holes...)
Leelah: Do you want to fish with me, Rise?
Rise (blushing): S-sure... (Fishing together with Leelah... I'm so happy!) Both sit down to fish.
Leelah: Eek! The ice's cold!
Rise: Y-yeah... (That teacher may seem like a nutcase, but this wasn't a bad idea. It's pretty peaceful...)
Leelah: Smiles.
Rise (blushing): (Plus, I get to spend time alone with Leelah...)
Erovra: Appears behind him. Yo! How's it going?
Rise (surprised): Yah! Where'd you come from?
Erovra: You catch anything yet?
Rise: We've only been here for about 3 minutes...
Erovra: It's okay. It's still nice, right? Since you're with your girlfriend.
Leelah (blushing): E-eh?
Rise (blushing): S-she's not my girlfriend! (Unfortunately...)
Erovra: Oh? Sorry, my mistake! Anyway, have fun! Walks away.
Rise: S-sorry about that... That must have been awkward for you...
Leelah: Eh? Oh n-no, there's no need to apologize...
Rise: It must be troublesome for you to be here with me. You'd rather be with one of your girl friends, right?
Leelah: No, don't say that! Being here with you makes me happy.
Rise (blushing): R-really?
Leelah: When I learned that this class was small I got scared...
Rise: Why?
Leelah: I'm not good at meeting new people... I get really nervous... But since you're with me, I'm not scared anymore.
Rise (blushing): ...
Leelah: Since you're someone I know.
Rise: *sweatdrop* (O-only because I'm someone she knows...?)
Leelah: Hm? A-ah, but you're still a special friend to me...
Rise: Oh, really? T-thanks... Jarr's fishing line gets caught on his hood.
Jarr: Huh?
Leelah: A-ah, Rise...
Rise: What is it?
Leelah: There's a...
Jarr: Pulls on his fishing line. It's a big one!
Rise: Gets pulled back. Gah!
Leelah: R-Rise!
Rise: Gets pulled towards Jarr.
Jarr: Oh, hey Rise...
Rise (breathing heavily): Gets up. *pant* You idiot! You almost choked me to death!
Jarr: Sorry about that...
Rise (angry): You're such a moron...
Jarr: By the way, why are you fishing together with Leelah?
Rise (blushing): A-ah, um...
Jarr: Smirks. I get it...
Rise (blushing): G-get what?
Jarr: You're getting closer to Leelah because you like Neenah, right? Man, why didn't I think of that?
Rise: Glares at Jarr.
Jarr: What?
Rise: Pulls Jarr's hood over his head.
Jarr: Hey, I can't see!
Rise: Ties up Jarr with his fishing line.
Jarr: Gah!
Rise: Walks back to Leelah.
Jarr: I wonder if it was something I said...?
Rise (blushing): (Maybe I should tell Leelah how I feel... Before there are any misunderstandings...) Um, L-Leelah... I...
Leelah: Lifts up her fishing pole. Ah! I got a bite!
Rise: What?!?
Leelah: Pulls. I-it's strong...
Rise: Hold on, I'll help you! Gets up and helps Leelah. *grunt* It is strong!
Erovra: Helps too. It must be a big one!
Rise: (Why did you have to come? I wanted to do this with only Leelah...) Accidentally lets go. (Oh no...) Everyone falls down.
Erovra: Ah well, we'll have to try again, I guess... The bell rings. Oh no, class is over! We'll have to head back... Let's go everyone!
Leelah: And we almost had it too...
Rise: I'm sorry, it all my fault...
Leelah: No, it's okay! I had fun fishing with you today! Smiles.
Rise (blushing): M-me too! They both enter the school.
Leelah: Well, I've got to go to my next class! See you later! Leaves.
Rise: Bye. (Well, that was fun. Now to go to my next class.) Goes to his English class.
Abate: Yo, Rise! What took you?
Rise: Oh, you're in my class too? Wait, how did you know I'd come?
Abate: I read your schedule, remember?
Rise: Then why didn't you say anything...?
Abate: 'cause I didn't feel like it...
Rise: (He probably just forgot...)
Abate: So, tell me about your first class.
Rise: Ah, okay. It's this weird Nature class...
Abate: Nature class?
Rise: Yeah, Jarr and Leelah are in it too.
Abate: It's cool that Jarr is in it, but why does it matter that Leelah's there?
Rise: Ah, n-never mind... (What am I thinking? Of course he wouldn't care...)
Abate: But it's winter now; what did you do?
Rise: We ice fished.
Abate: Ice fished...? (That sounds fun... I'm kinda jealous...)
Rise: Hm...
Abate: What's wrong?
Rise: I have this strange feeling I forgot something...
Abate: Did you leave something in your last class?
Rise: I don't know... I can't remember...
Abate: Don't worry about it. If it was that important, you'd have remembered already.
Rise: Yeah, I guess you're right.
Jarr: Tied up, sitting on the frozen lake. Um, hello? Is anyone out there? Someone please help me!
