Detect-er Aster
Ep.#03 - Starr
Written by: CS-Masyet
Day: March 24 / Time: 10:35 / Location: Aster's School
After the incident at The Press Studio, they took the liberty of putting up the case in the newspaper. I'm in it of course, but it's not like any0ne is actually going to care. Not that it bothers me or anything.
Ovice says that there are no cases to take today, so I don't have anything to do after school. And I was all prepared to solve another case too. Aw well, I guess the less cases the better...
There's this girl who likes to help people who can't find any friends. Her name is Starr. Why am I saying this? Because there are fliers of her all over school. It was driving me insane, so I sat outside to eat lunch.
Starr: "Hey Gale, do you think making those fliers was a good idea? I wonder if it's bothering anyone..."
Gale: "No, it's great that you want to help the newcomers in this school. But I think you may have overdone it with the fliers..."
"(Oh right, there are a lot of people transferring to this school for some reason... And seriously, why did she put so many fliers for? ...wait a second, why does she have to be outside, of all places?) *groan* (I just hope I'll be able to eat my lunch in peace...)"
Starr: "Hey Gale, that guy is all by himself..."
Gale: "Oh, don't worry about him; he's not a newcomer... Hold on a minute; that guy..." Takes out a newspaper. "It's him! He's the new detective who solved the theft case yesterday!"
Starr: "He's the new detective? Why is he by himself? I thought detectives were supposed to be really popular..."
Gale: "Dunno. He doesn't seem to want any friends..."
Starr: "Nonsense, I'm going to go talk to him!"
Gale: "Wait a minute! *sigh*"
Starr sits next to me.
Starr: "Hi!"
"(Just great...) What?"
Starr: "Are you the new detective?"
"Where did you hear that from?"
Starr: "The newspaper."
"Oh, I see... Yeah, so what I am?"
Starr: "Where are your friends?"
"Don't have any."
Starr: "Oh, you don't? ...then do you want to be my friend?"
"Nope."
Starr: "W-why not?"
"Because you're annoying."
Starr: "Annoying? All I wanted to do was be your friend! You're so mean!" Gets up. "You'll regret it later!" Runs away.
"(I'm sure I won't...)"
Day: March 24 / Time: 22:00 / Location: Aster's House
Tomorrow's no school, but I'm going to sleep anyway. Just in case there's a case tomorrow...
Why do I have the feeling something bad is about to happen? Whatever, I shouldn't let that bother me...
Day: March 24 / Time: 22:30 / Location: Crescent Beach
Starr: "The beach is so pretty at night! But yesterday was scary... I have to try and get that out of my head..."
Guy: Walks up to her. "Ah, it's you! You came back for me!"
Starr: "No, not you again! Don't come near me..."
Guy: "But I just want to have some fun..."
Starr: "No... NO!!!"
Day: March 24 / Time: 23:00 / Location: Aster's House
"*groan* I can't sleep... I guess I'll go for a walk..." Leaves the house and goes to the park. "It's so quiet at night. There seems to be a gloomy atmosphere..." Sees a girl sitting on a bench. "Hm? What's a person doing out here at this time? Doesn't she know it's dangerous? (Wait... that girl! Is she...)" Walks up to her. "Um, excuse me..."
Starr: "GYAHHH!!!"
"Ah! Don't scream like that! It's only me..."
Starr: "Oh, it's only you... What are you doing here?"
"I'm the one who should be asking that question..."
Starr: "I-I just wanted to look at the water at the beach... It's so pretty at night..."
"Then why are you here? This park is nowhere near the beach."
Starr: "I-I..." Starts crying. "A weird guy... t-tried to do bad things to me! He tried last week too..."
"(If he tried last time, then why did you go back?!?)"
Starr (crying): "I-I got scared and ran away... Will I never be able to go to the beach again...? A-Aster... please help me!" Hugs Aster.
"(D-don't just hug me like we're close or something! But I guess I should still try and comfort her...)" Pats her head. "There, there... Everything's going to be okay..."
Starr: "M-my house is really close to the beach, too... What should I do?"
"Wait, what?!? (I guess that would explain why she's not scared to walk there in the middle of the night... But...) Has he ever tried to get into your house before?"
Starr: "No, but... Wednesday night... I heard a strange noise when I was in my bed... I looked out the window, and saw someone outside."
"Was it the same person?"
Starr: "I don't know... It was too dark to see him..."
"You could see him at the beach but not outside your own window?"
Starr: "The trees around my house block the moonlight."
"(Ah, so that's how she sees the water at night... But I don't remember seeing the moon while walking here... In fact, I don't see it now either! Maybe the trees...)" Gets up.
Starr: "Huh? Where are you going?"
"(There it is! But...) The moon is almost in its new moon phase..."
Starr: "I know, but there's still some light at the beach..."
"But that's still dangerous! You should wait until the full moon starts to come back at least..."
Starr: "Okay... Um, you're a detective, right? Could you please stop that guy? I-I'm afraid he'll..."
"Sure. I'll do what I can."
Starr: "Really? Thank you so much! Does this mean you'll be my friend?"
"I'll think about it..."
Starr: "Okay! And could you walk me home? I'm scared to walk by myself..."
"Sure." Takes Starr home.
Starr: "Thank you so much. See you next Monday." Goes home.
"I should check out the beach before I call it a day." Goes to Crescent Beach. "It's still pretty dark..." Sees someone looking at the water. "(H-hey, that must be...!) Hey you!"
?: "A-ahhh!" Runs away.
"Get back here!" Loses him. "Darn it!" Sees a footprint on the ground. "(All I can do now is record his footprint...)" Draws his footprint in his notepad. "(Just you wait! I'll catch you, mysterious beach boy!)"
