Reduna

"...Now, it's time for the next new student to receive their new weapon. #58, Rune..."

"Yep, that's me!" I called out, happy that my wait was finally over. I was finally going to get my weapon!

"Um, right... Anyway, here you go." The proctor handed me a weird, rectangular box.

"What's this?"

"It's your weapon. It'll transform using the power of your essence. Once that happens, it'll remain that way for good and can only be wielded by its owner."

"Cool! How do I transform it?"

"All you have to do is clear your mind."

"That's it?"

"Yeah. It's actually became this easy only recently. What great timing..."

Okay, I've gotta think of nothing at all for a sec... And...!

The box started to glow, and transformed into my new weapon.

--

My name's Reduna, but you probably knew that already. And the other thing that almost everyone knows about me is my dream; the dream I made 6 years ago. To make a group that will help and support people in need, people that can't do so themselves.

And thanks to the Light-Colored Organization, that'll finally become a reality.

"Now that I've got my weapon, I just need to meet up with Wendy and Areta!"

But first, class time...

--

"Oh no!" I exclaimed, running around the school halls. "Because I was so fixated on getting my weapon, I forgot to check where my class is!"

Apparently, just having a weapon isn't enough. The Organization lets you join (or even make) your own squad, but you still have to take a bunch of classes too. I get that I need to learn how to use my weapon, but rudimentary classes?

But math's not gonna help me fulfill my dream!

"Darn, room 108... Room 108... Where are you? I can't be late on my first day! ... Augh!"

While I was running, I accidentally ran into someone, making them drop their stuff.

"O-oh no! I'm sooo sorry!" I told him, frantically helping him pick up his stuff. "Are you okay?"

"..." He said nothing, but looked up at me. He had droopy eyes, and unkempt hair... Although maybe I messed it up when I bumped into him.

"Uh, here you go." I said, giving him his stuff after he got back up. "Again, I'm really sorry."

"... I-I'm used to it..." He said in a quiet voice, while looking down at the ground.

"Hm? ...oh!" I remembered something just then. "You wouldn't happen to know where room 108 is, by any chance?"

"..." He pointed up. "...There."

"Eh?" I looked up, and saw a sign that read '108' on it. "... Heheh..."

Dang, I feel so stupid!

The boy went into the classroom without saying anything.

"Oh, you're... Hey, wait!" I followed him into the classroom before he closed the door on me.

--

I introduced myself to the class, trying to be as casual as possible. But since I arrived in such a weird fashion, I still got laughed at.

There goes my chance to impress everybody...

Even though I arrived late, I still had trouble looking for a seat. But luckily...

"Reduna! Over here!" A familiar voice called out to me. "Sit next to me!"

"Oh, Wendy!" I went to sit next to to her. It was far in the back, but it at least it was a window seat.

"I'm glad we're in the same class!" She exclaimed happily. "I was upset because I thought I was alone with people I don't know. And..." She started speaking more softly. "T-there's a scary-looking guy here..."

"Scary-looking guy?"

"Reduna, don't say that so loud! H-he'll hear you..."

I looked around, but didn't see anyone scary. "I think you're just being paranoid."

"Well, he's here, so don't talk about him so loudly. Okay?"

"Fine, fine..." I decided to change the subject. "By the way, I just got my weapon today. I want to show you later!"

"Me too! And Areta's invited me to join the squad she's in."

"W-wait, already?!"

"Yeah, and she told me to see her after school."

"Of course I will!" I said with glee.

We're finally going to fulfill the promise we made... This is great!

--

After classes ended for the day, I decided to check out the squads. But...

"Where exactly are the squads located, anyway?"

"... Hello, Rune." A familiar voice called out to me.

"Oh, Rife!" I went up to him to talk to him. "Whatcha been up to?"

"I just finished registering for the main squad."

"The main squad?"

"It's the central squad for the Light-Colored Organization."

"Seriously?! That squad's only for pros, right? How did you manage to get in, especially since you've only been here for a year?"

"It's seems they were impressed with my grades and weapon performance. I'm glad, because I was hoping to join a really talented squad."

"That's my super-talented cousin for you!"

"I'm sure you could join too if you worked hard enough."

"No thanks, I'm actually planning on joining the squad that Wendy and Areta are in." I explained to him. "With my grades, I probably couldn't get in, anyway..."

"Yeah, you're probably right."

"Hey!"

"Heheh... Anyway, do you want me to show you the way to the squad building?"

"Yeah, I was actually wondering where to go! ... Wait, squad building?"

"There are a lot of squads, so they needed to build a separate building for them."

"Wow, that's incredible!"

"Well, actually this building we're in now used to be just for squads, when this place was kept secret."

"Oh, really..."

"But enough about that. Let's get going."

"Alright!"
