The Sea Sprites
Ep.#01: The Endangered Lake
Written by: CS-Masyet

There was once a very beautiful salt water lake near the sea full of creatures called Sea Sprites. However, a group of people discovered this lake and drained most of its water for the resources and animals living there, killing all the Sea Sprites. Except for one Sea Sprite... \ A family of three decided to take a vacation to this lake. They won't be very happy once they see it...

Dad (driving a car): Parks the car.
Mom (in the car): Tide, we're here!
Tide (also in the car): It's about time...

They all get out of the car.

Dad: Don't worry, it'll be worth the wait.
Tide: Dad, don't tell me that's the lake...

The lake barely had any water and was surrounded by a lot of wet sand. In other words, it looked like it had dried up.

Mom: That's strange, there was a lot more water the last time your dad and I were here...
Dad (horrified): ...
Tide: Dad?
Dad: Runs to the water. Tide and his mom follow.
Tide: What's up, dad?
Dad: Look. Points to a baby whale lying on the beach. It is barely breathing. Let's hurry and bring it into the water.
Tide: Right.
Tide/Dad: Bring the whale into the water. The whale swims away happily.
Dad: How could this have happened to the lake?
Man: What do you think you're all doing? Walks up to them. It took forever to get that whale! You know how rare it is to find whales in a lake?
Tide: What are you talking about? That whale would've died if we hadn't...
Man: No kidding, punk! We need the blubber from the whales, but we don't want to stab...
Dad: Are you involved in drying up the lake?
Man: What's it to ya? We own this lake! We can do whatever we want with it!
Tide: Sees a machine filled with water near the lake. That thing! That's what's wrecked the lake! Runs toward the machine.
Man: Where do you think you're going, kid?
Mom: Tide!
Tide: (I have to find a way to stop that machine!) Trips and falls into a polluted part of the lake, which causes Tide to be unable to see. Gah! Help, I can't see!

The current almost brings him into the sewer, but someone saves him.

Tide: Thanks, I almost drowned... huh?

A mermaid-like girl was sitting in front of him, smiling.

Tide: Are you a...

The mermaid dives under the water, out of sight.

Tide: Wait! ... *sigh*
Dad: Tide! Are you alright?
Tide: Dad, is that you?
Dad: Helps Tide up.
Mom: Oh, thank goodness! I was so worried!
Tide: I didn't get anywhere near the machine...
Dad: That's alright. I found another whale lying on the beach. Do you want to...
Mom: Mark! You shouldn't be asking him something like that after what just happened!
Tide: That's okay, mom.
Tide/Dad: Ran to the spot where the whale was and brought it back into the lake.
Tide: Make sure not to get caught again!
Dad: Let's go to the hut now. Your mom's been dying to unpack.
Tide: Okay! (I wonder if that mermaid will be okay where she was. The water was all dirty there and wasn't connected to the lake...)

A few hours later, after they all unpacked...

Tide: Goes outside to where the girl that saved him was. She was there, sleeping. (There she is. If she's really a mermaid, then she should get back to the lake as soon as possible...) Brings the girl to the lake.
Girl: Wakes up. Thank you for saving me.
Tide: Oh, so you can talk...
Girl: Uh huh.
Tide: Are you a mermaid?
Girl: Huh? A mermaid? No, I'm a Sea Sprite.
Tide: A Sea Sprite? What's that?
Girl: I'm not surprised you don't know. I'm the only one left... Frowns.
Tide (angry): Looks at the machine. (It must be that stupid thing's fault!)
Girl: Heehee, do you want to see where I live?
Tide: Huh? I guess...
Girl: Then let's go! Grabs Tide's hand and dives under the water with him.
Tide: W-wait! I can't breath under here...
Girl: Kisses him.
Tide (blushing): W-what was that?
Girl: Try to breathe now.
Tide: Breathes. Hey, I can breathe!
Girl: Let's go! Dives deeper.
Tide: I didn't know there was still so much water down here; after what happened to the whales and the...
Girl: They were taken away easily because they always slept near the surface of the lake.
Tide: But what happened to the Sea Sp-...
Girl: C'mon! We're still not there yet! Dives deeper until they reach the bottom. They were in an area isolated by coral. This is my room.
Tide: Your room?
Girl: After I lost my family those nice whales gave me a place to stay.
Tide: You haven't always lived here?
Girl: Not exactly... Sits on her bed at the corner of her "room". It had "Brooke" labeled on it.
Tide: Brooke... Is that your name?
Brooke: Uh huh.
Tide: Oh that's right, my name is...
Brooke: Tide, right?
Tide: How did you know?
Brooke: I heard someone call out your name after I saved you.
Tide: Speaking of which, how did you end up over there anyway?
Brooke: It was my secret hiding place. I used to go there when I wanted to be alone, but I'm sick of being alone now... Frowns.
Tide: Oh... But that place's water isn't connected to the lake's. How did you get from here to there?
Brooke: I walked, duh! Heehee!
Tide: You can walk on land?
Brooke: Of course. Can you swim?
Tide: Yeah...
Brooke: See? Same thing!
Tide: Noticed that the water was turning orange. It was because the sun was setting. I'd better get going; it's getting late...
Brooke (frowning): Y-you're leaving?
Tide: I can come back tomorrow if you want.
Brooke: Promise?
Tide: I promise. Swims back up to the surface.

Tide decides not to tell his family about Brooke. Will Tide really have time to see her without them knowing?

Mom: Tide, why are you all wet?
Tide: Uh...
