Outrider Falsetto
Markus is lying in his bed, face flushed red, skin pale and sweaty. He coughs up a storm while a few others watch over him with concern. Amber crosses her arms with a frown, Barbara sobs, and even Rosaria is there to check on him.

Amber: "Hang in there, Markus..."

Rosaria: "What a pitiful sight..."

Barbara: "B-Big Bro, I'm so sorry..."

Markus: "All of you relax, I'm not dying or anything..." He lets out a long and loud barrage of coughs after saying this.

Rosaria: "I don't know, you kind of sound like you are."

Amber: "I feel bad that you got sick, but..." She places her hands on her hips crossly. "You ended up like this because you overworked yourself, right? How many times have I told you to take it easy once in a while?"

Markus: "N-no, it's fine, I'm okay. I can still..."

Markus attempts to get up but Amber immediately stops him, placing her hands on his shoulders and pushing him back into bed.

Amber: "No way! I'm not taking my eyes off you until you finally stop trying to get up! Go to sleep already!"

Markus: "But Amber, we both have an important job to do today..."

Barbara: "I know, this is all my fault!" She suddenly wails, tears streaming down her face.

Amber: "H-huh? What do you mean?"

Barbara: "L-last night, I had Markus stay up with me to help test out my 'Chilibrew'... er, a new spicy drink I've been working on..." She says inbetween sniffles. "I should've known something was wrong when he drank them without gagging!"

Amber: "Barbara, calm down, I'm sure that had nothing to do with it..."

Markus: "Yeah, I'm the one who chose to help you Barb, you shouldn't feel guilty about anything..." He lets out another strong cough before his head slumps down onto his pillow, too tired to raise his head again.

After a few more minutes, Markus finally drifts off to sleep, the others deciding to leave him be, slowly and quietly walking out of the room.

Amber: "Phew... thank goodness, I thought he'd never fall asleep."

Rosaria: "By the way, what was he saying about an 'important job'?"

Amber: "Oh right, both us Outriders were tasked with escorting and guarding a wealthy traveler from Snezhnaya, as he makes his way over to Liyue."

Rosaria: "Pfft, is that all? Who cares about some loaded blowhard?!"

Amber: "B-but... Markus was really worried that he could make the Knights look bad if he didn't go..."

Barbara: "Uuuuh... B-Bro..." She winces.

Rosaria: "Can't you just guard him alone? You're used to traveling around Mond by yourself anyway, right?"

Amber: "I guess, but... The man expects the both of us to show up, and he might get upset even if I explain the reason for Markus's absence..."

Rosaria: "Mmngh... What an absolute pain. Maybe I should take him out, to save you both the trouble..."

Amber: "S-Sister Rosaria!"

Rosaria: "Relax, I was just kidding." She shrugs.

Barbara: "If only I could take your place right now, Markus... And be sick for you..."

Amber: "Aw, don't say that, Barbara! The last thing he'd want is for you to get as sick as him!"

Rosaria: "'Take his place', huh?" She pauses, her lips curling into a small smirk. "Hm, now that's an interesting idea..."

Amber: "Huh? Interesting idea?" She questions.

Rosaria: "If he's expected to be present with you for your escort mission, but he's too sick to leave his room... then we simply need a replacement Markus."

Amber: "A replacement Markus...?" She questions again. "Do you mean... have someone pretend to be him or something?"

Rosaria: "Not 'or something', that's exactly what I mean. We just need someone that looks enough like him who could realistically pull off the disguise."

Amber pauses, before glancing over at Barbara.

Rosaria: "For example... his sibling."

Barbara: Blinks a few times in disbelief. "... Eh?"

--

A couple minutes later, Barbara steps before Amber and Rosaria, clad in Markus's normal Outrider attire. She even has his bow strapped to her side, and her hair tied in a ponytail like he normally does, although her hair is obviously longer than his.

Amber: "Oooh!" Her eyes sparkle with excitement. "I wasn't sure about this idea at first, but you look great, Barbara! Just like a slightly smaller Markus~!"

Barbara: "R-really? Heheh..." She utters uneasily.

Rosaria: "I honestly didn't expect it to work this well. I don't think even I would notice something's off at a glance..."

Barbara: "I can't believe I actually agreed to do this..." She fidgets, pulling at her sleeves and fingerless gloves as she shifts awkwardly in the unfamiliar outfit.

Rosaria: "You wanted to do something for your brother while he's sick and incapacitated, right?"

Barbara: "I-I know, but... I look..."

Amber: "Amazing!" She cuts in happily. "You're almost his spitting image!"

Rosaria: "Your hair is a bit too long though, we should probably trim it..."

Barbara: "No way, absolutely not!" She cries, clutching her tied hair in her hands defensively. "W-we can just say that Bro decided to... Er, I decided to let it grow out for some reason..."

Rosaria: "Whatever, fine. As long as you don't draw too much attention to yourself, I suppose this should be... passable enough."

Amber: "So, how well does it fit? It's not too loose, is it?"

Barbara: "No, it's pretty... snug, surprisingly." She responds, pulling on her collar in discomfort.

Amber: "Is that so? Let's not tell Markus that, it probably won't make him too happy..."

Barbara: "In fact, it's almost too snug... How can Bro walk around all day in an outfit like this?"

Amber: "Heheh... An Outrider's uniform has to be kinda tight fitting, or else it could mess with mobility." She explains. "It's perfect for traveling, for gliding, and even for fighting."

Barbara: "I-I see... I suppose I'll just have to try and get used to it..." She says while still adjusting her attire. "Thank Lord Barbatos that Markus is so diligent with cleaning his uniforms regularly, at least..."

Rosaria: "Hm..."

Amber: "Is something wrong?"

Rosaria: "Barbara, just looking like him won't be enough on its own, you need to act and sound like him too. You know that, right?"

Barbara: "Of course, that I can handle easily!" She nods confidently. "Watch this!"

She clears her throat, furrows her brow, and puts on a dramatically grumpy face.

Barbara: "Barb, I'm not obsessed with Sunsettias! I just think they should be part of every meal!" She states in a deeper voice.

Both Barbara and Amber can't help bursting into laughter. Rosaria simply shakes her head and sighs.

Rosaria: "Maybe this wasn't a good idea after all..."

Amber: "Hey Barbara, let me help you practice with the bow! We can set up some training dummies on the roof, so no one else sees what we're doing."

Barbara: "U-um, are you just saying that so you have an excuse to climb up there again, Amber...?"

Amber: "Hey, I've only snuck up there to glide a couple times..."

Barbara: "Bro told me you've had him unlock the cathedral during the night so often that he almost had his key taken away."

Amber: "A-ah... He's exaggerating! Definitely..."

Rosaria: "Setting something like that up on the roof is almost asking to hit some poor soul wandering around the courtyard..."

Barbara: "Aw, Sister Rosaria, how kind of you to be so worried about others like that!" She says with a warm smile.

Rosaria: She groans in response. "What I said is common sense! Anyway, we should head out the back gate to find an open field for her to 'practice' instead. We need to see how well her disguise actually works, anyway."

Barbara: "You mean, I-I'll have to leave the city... in this getup?!"

Amber: "Well, duh, of course. What'll be the point of the disguise if you don't leave?"

Barbara: She gulps nervously. "Maybe this wasn't a good idea after all..." She echoes what Rosaria said earlier.

Amber: "Aw, c'mon, it'll be fine, I'm sure! Let's go Barbara... I mean, Markus!"

Barbara: "Ugh..."

--

As the three leave the cathedral and head toward the back gate, they run into a few city residents and fellow Knights passing by. Amber happily waves to them as she normally does, while Barbara keeps her head down and remains silent. Her disguise seems to be holding up so far though, until someone suddenly drops down from the watch ledge above the gate to greet them.

Amber: "K-Kaeya?! You startled us!"

Kaeya: "Sorry about that. Where are you all headed? I thought your escort mission wasn't until this afternoon."

Amber: "Oh, we figured we could squeeze in some training time before then."

Kaeya: "Is that so? And... you're going with them, Sister Rosaria?"

Rosaria: "I just feel like going for a walk. Is that a problem?"

Kaeya: "No, not at all. I was just curious." He turns to Barbara. "Good morning, Markus. You seem... unusually quiet today."

Barbara: "G-good day to you, Sir Kaeya!" She blurts out, with a rigid voice and stiff posture. "This is quite the fine morning, isn't it?"

Kaeya: "..."

Amber: "..."

Rosaria: "..."

Kaeya: "... Indeed it is. Perhaps I'll go for a walk myself later, if I have the time." He eyes her more carefully, his faint smile eventually turning into a smirk. "Though... Something seems off about you today, Markus. It's almost like you've been replaced by some sort of doppelganger."

Barbara: "E-eh?!" She turns pale, before Amber quickly steps in.

Amber: "U-uh... we want to hurry and get our training done before it's time for our escort mission! See you later, Kaeya!"

She grabs Barbara by the arm and hurriedly drags her away, Rosaria slowly following behind.

Kaeya: "It seems like something... very interesting is going on today. It's a shame I don't have the time to follow them..." He shrugs, heading in the other direction.

As soon as they've left Mondstadt and are far enough that they're not in earshot of anyone else, Amber turns to Barbara and says,

Amber: "T-that was close! Barbara, Markus doesn't normally talk that formally to Kaeya!" She exhales sharply, almost out of breath.

Barbara: "W-what, really? But he's the Cavalry Captain, though?!" She exclaims in confusion.

Rosaria: She lets out a deep sigh. "This could easily end in absolute disaster, I just know it..."

Barbara: "N-no way...!"

Amber: "By the way, how come you decided to tag along, Sister Rosaria? Not that I mind, but..."

Rosaria: "Because I'm afraid if I didn't, this would definitely end in absolute disaster."

Amber: "I'm sure it'll be fine! I can help Barbara practice acting 'more like Markus' while we're out here. We're in the middle of a random open field, surely no one who knows him well enough that they could easily see through her disguise will come by at this very moment..."

They glance ahead and notice Klee happily skipping towards them, Albedo following closely behind.

Amber: "... Well, darn."

Klee: "Oh, it's Markus! And Amber! And even Rosaria! Have you come here to play with Klee?" She says happily as she approaches them.

Amber: "U-uh... what are the two of you doing here?"

Albedo: "I managed to clear some time to look after Klee. It's been a while since I spent time with her, and Markus told me you both would be tied up with something important today, so... I figured now would be as good a time as any." He explains, before turning to Barbara. "Isn't that right... Markus?"

Barbara: "U-uh, yeah...! Heheh..." She stammers, sweat beading down her forehead.

Klee: "Hm?" She approaches Barbara, tilting her head in confusion. "Markus...?"

Barbara: "Y-yes? What is it, Klee?" She bends down to talk to her, giving her a kind but nervous smile.

Klee: "Hmm... something about you seems... weird. Klee thinks you look shorter, and your hair's longer, and... you seem really nervous about something..." She gazes at her, very suspiciously.

Barbara: "W-wha! She noticed all that right away!?" She panics internally.

Albedo: "By the way... Markus." He cuts in, giving Barbara a light smirk. "About that alchemical experiment I mentioned to you the other day..."

Barbara: "A-alchemical experiment?"

Albedo: "Yes. Surely you haven't forgotten about it... have you?"

Barbara: She stiffens. "N-no! Of course not!"

Amber: "Uh oh, this is really bad!" She thinks to herself, unsure if she should intervene or not.

Rosaria remains silent herself, placing a hand over her face and sighing.

Albedo: "Well anyway, it's done." He takes out a Sunsettia, holding it up towards Barbara. "A Sunsettia with its normal sweet flavor replaced with a sharp spiciness. Care to try it?"

Barbara: "O-oh?" She eyes brighten at the sight, very intrigued by the idea of trying a spicy Sunsettia, before she quickly composes herself and clears her throat.

Barbara feigns a smirk of her own, placing her hands on her hips in false confidence.

Barbara: "A-absolutely not! Why would I want to eat something like that?! A spicy Sunsettia!? I can't think of anything more disgusting!"

Amber: "Wow, nice going, Barbara! That'd even have me fooled!" She thinks to herself again, very impressed with how Barbara handled that.

However, Albedo merely chuckles in response.

Albedo: "Apologies, but... If your intent was to deceive me, then you'll have to try a lot harder than that... Sister Barbara."

Barbara: "E-eh?!"

Klee: "W-wait, you're... actually Barbara? Not Markus?!" She says in wide-eyed bewilderment.

Amber: "H-huh? How did you figure it out?!"

Albedo: "It's quite simple. The whole thing about the 'alchemical experiment' was a lie. This is just an ordinary Sunsettia."

Rosaria: "Figures. You knew it was her from the start, didn't you?"

Albedo: "Naturally. I wouldn't be a very good friend if I couldn't tell Markus apart from an imposter."

Klee: "Whoooa! Barbara, you really tricked Klee! I totally thought you were Markus! That's sooo cool!" She says to her, bouncing up and down in excitement. "Why are you dressed like that? Are you playing a game?!"

Barbara: "K-Klee, calm down! Shh!" She tries to shush Klee, worried that there might be any others around that could overhear them.

Klee: "But Klee just wants to know what you're doing! Where's Markus? If you're dressed like him, does that mean he's dressed like you too?"

Albedo and Rosaria both cover their mouths instinctively, almost bursting into laughter at the thought.

Barbara: "U-um, actually..." She frowns. "Markus is at home right now, in the cathedral. He's... not feeling very well right now. He's sick in bed."

Klee's and even Albedo's eyes widen at the news.

Klee: "O-oh no! Is he okay?! Poor Markus!" She asks with worry, tearing up a little.

Amber: "It's nothing major, he just worked himself too hard. But I don't think he'll be able to get out of bed for the whole day."

Rosaria: "He had quite the coughing fit, though..."

Barbara: "That might be my fault... Because I had him help me try those drinks yesterday..." She says guiltily, tearing up as much as Klee.

Albedo: "I see... I'm assuming that's your reason for this disguise, then? Are you going to work in Markus's place, perhaps?"

Barbara: "Y-yeah, that's right..."

Albedo places a hand under his chin, deep in thought.

Amber: "You're still worried about Markus, aren't you?"

Albedo: "... Yes." He admits, before turning to Klee. "I'm sorry, Klee. But I'd like to step away for a moment, if that's okay. I promise I'll make time for you later today."

Klee: "That's fine! You want to go check on Markus, right?" She gives him a big, understanding smile. "Klee wants to go see him too!"

Albedo: He nods with a smile of his own. "Alright. Let's go then." He glances over at Rosaria. "That isn't a problem, is it, Sister Rosaria?"

Rosaria: "Why are you asking me? It's no concern of mine."

Albedo: "If you say so." Before he leaves, he looks back at Barbara. "Good luck... 'Markus'."

As they watch the two leave, Barbara lets out a huge sigh.

Barbara: "P-phew..."

Amber: "That... could've gone a lot better..."

Rosaria: "Those two are pretty close to Markus. Don't worry about it."

Barbara: She giggles softly. "Thank you for trying to cheer me up."

Rosaria: "Hmph." She crosses her arms, looking away. "Never mind that. Weren't you going to help Barbara train with the bow, Amber?"

Amber: "Oh yes, of course! Are you ready, Barbara? Take out your bow and let's get started!"

Barbara: "Um, but... we didn't bring any training dummies along with us, and I don't see anything to practice on that's already here..."

Amber: "That's okay! We'll train with these!"

Amber tosses out four Baron Bunnies, which happily dance and hop around nearby.

Barbara: "H-huh?! You want me to shoot those?!"

Amber: "Yep! I've got plenty more, so feel free to practice on them as much as you want!"

Barbara: "But I'd feel bad about it, though... They're so cute, and..."

Rosaria: "You're not already thinking of backing out, are you?"

Barbara: "U-uh...!" She shakes her head. "N-no! I can do it!"

Barbara pulls out Markus's bow and takes a deep breath, nervously preparing an arrow. She fires a couple shots, most of them missing. But eventually, she hits all four of them.

Amber: "Hooray, you did it! Great job, Barbara!" She cheers in excitement.

Barbara: "P-phew... I managed to do it, somehow..."

Rosaria: "By the way, how many arrows were in that quiver? It looks like you've nearly used up all of them..."

Amber: "Markus always makes sure to fill it up every night, so there should've been... about 50?"

Barbara: "Fifty?!" She exclaims in despair, her head drooping. "Maybe I'm not cut out for this after all... There's no way I can come even close to being like Bro. I want to help him, but..."

Amber: "Relax, Barbara." She places a hand on her shoulder comfortingly. "This is your first time using a bow, right? Markus and even I had a hard time hitting things our first times, too. Don't be discouraged about the arrows that don't hit, feel encouraged about the ones that do!"

Barbara looks over at Amber, and her frown turns into a small smile.

Barbara: "... Yeah, okay!"

Amber: "We've still got a good amount of time before our mission this afternoon, let's keep practicing! You'll be a pro in no time!"

Barbara: "A-alright!"

Rosaria: "I feel like 'aiming to become a pro' in just a few hours is asking for too much, but I won't say anything..." She thinks to herself, sighing as she watches Barbara try to hit more Baron Bunnies.

--

A few hours later, they walk back into the city through the same back gate they had left from, Barbara very exhausted from all the training she did.

Barbara: "I-I'm so tired... I can barely feel my hands after all the arrows I fired..."

Amber: "But you kept it up for all that time! I'm proud of you, Markus! Let's head to Good Hunter to take a break before our mission, I'll treat you to your favorite Sunsettia juice as a reward for your hard work!"

Barbara: "U-um..."

Amber suddenly gasps.

Amber: "O-oh wait, you're Barbara, not Markus!" She laughs at her own mistake. "Wow, I feel so silly for forgetting! Your training today reminded me so much of how things were when Markus first started training to become an Outrider! How nostalgic!"

Barbara: "Did you used to treat him to Sunsettia juice and food from Good Hunter after every training session?"

Amber: Yep! It always helped motivate him to keep going!"

Barbara: "Heheh, is that so? That's kind of adorable~!" She chuckles at the thought.

Amber: "But y'know, I think this is a sign that this 'disguise yourself as Markus plan' might actually work out pretty well!"

Barbara: "You think so?" She turns to Rosaria, who's been silently standing nearby this whole time. "U-uh, what about you, Sister Rosaria? Do you think I'll be able to pull it off?"

Rosaria says nothing for a few seconds, until...

Rosaria: "... I suppose we'll just have to see. Good luck." She turns and walks off without another word, heading back to the cathedral.

Amber: "Aw, is that all? Couldn't you give her a little more encouragement?"

Barbara: "It's okay, Amber. She is encouraging me... in her own way. Uh, I think..."

Amber: "So, are you still interested in grabbing a drink at Good Hunter?"

Barbara: "U-uh, I'd rather not head down there like... this. I don't want to risk even more people seeing through my disguise..."

Amber: "Then, let's head to my place. There shouldn't be many other Knights there right now, so it should be a quiet enough spot for you to rest."

Amber takes Barbara to her living quarters, in a residential building fairly close to the Knights of Favonius's headquarters. Amber's living space is small but cozy; various Outrider supplies like maps and old bows are scattered around the room.

Barbara sighs and slumps into a chair, tugging at her collar in an attempt to cool herself off. With a smile, Amber opens a window for her and pours her a cup of water.

Amber: "Here you go."

Barbara: "Thank you very much." She gratefully accepts the water, gulping it down almost instantly.

Barbara glances out the window, and notices a dark figure heading out of the city from the direction of the cathedral.

Barbara: "Huh? Where's he going at this hour...?"

Amber: "Is something wrong, Barbara?"

Barbara: "N-no, it's nothing..." She looks around the room, and sighs again.

Amber: "What's the matter?"

Barbara: "Markus has told me a few times that it'd be nice for him to move out of the cathedral, and get his own place in these living quarters. Like a proper knight..."

Amber: She shakes her head. "He says that to me all the time, too. But I know he's just joking!"

Barbara: "Even if he is, he's not wrong, is he?"

Amber: "But he can't just leave. Because..."

Barbara: "... of me." She mutters, looking down at the empty cup in her hands.

Amber: "U-uh, well..." She pauses, laughing nervously, trying to keep up her cheery mood despite Barbara's gloomy one. "Markus just doesn't want to abandon you! You're family, after all. You're his dear little sister!"

Barbara: "I already thought that I've been selfish for making him worry about me so much. And after what I've gone through today, I realize just how hard he works, and that makes me feel even worse..."

Amber: "Don't say that! You work really hard on your own duties, don't you, Barbara? I'm sure being a Sister on top of being an idol isn't easy!"

Barbara: "I'm sorry, but I don't think I should do this after all, Amber. I already get nervous about messing up whenever I perform, but now... I'll be 'performing' as someone else entirely. What if I make Bro look bad, and even ruin his reputation?"

Amber: She places a hand on her shoulder reassuringly. "Hey, don't worry, it won't be just anyone who'll be taking his place today... it'll be you, Barbara. I don't think there's anyone who could better pull this off, and not just because you look like him. Besides, I'll be going on the mission too, so I'll be there to support you however I can!"

Barbara: "O-okay. Thank you, Amber. I really do want to do this... to help out Markus."

Barbara stands up straight, looking a bit more determined, her fingers clenching into small fists.

Barbara: "I-I'll... do my best!"

--

Amber and "Markus" head to the spot where they're supposed to meet with the one they've been tasked with escorting, to officially begin their mission. Amber looks as determined as ever while she waits, while Barbara stares down at the ground, her heart pounding in nervousness.

Barbara: "C'mon, get it together!" She assures herself internally. "I can do this! I have to do this... for Bro's sake!"

Amber: "Oh, looks like he's finally here!"

Barbara manages to raise her head, only to gasp at the sight before her.

"Well, well. So the two of you actually showed up... and before I did, no less. I'll give you Outriders one thing, you're at least punctual."

Amber: "Hang on, I feel like I've seen you somewhere before..."

Barbara: "V-Viktor?!" She blurts out, loud enough that it startles Amber a bit.

Amber: "Wait, that's right! You're that guy who's always pestering the sisters at the cathedral!"

Viktor: "Heh." He snickers. "Son of the cathedral's Seneschal, I take it you weren't expecting me to be the one you'd be escorting, hm?"

Amber: "We were told we'd be escorting a wealthy traveler from Snezhnaya, not..."

Viktor: "A member of the Fatui? I'm a diplomat sent by the Tsarista. That would definitely make me a 'Snezhnayan wealthy traveler', would it not? It's no lie."

Barbara: "Couldn't someone like you travel to Liyue on your own?"

Viktor: "Outriders like you know Mond's roads better than most, even among the other Knights. I thought it wouldn't hurt to have... some guides." He looks at Barbara with a dark, knowing smirk. "Why, do you think you're incapable of handling a simple mission like this? That being said, I heard you were feeling ill, so I suppose it's 'commendable' you even managed to show up at all."

Barbara: "W-what? How did you even know about that?!"

Viktor: "I... have my sources." He responds, smirking darkly.

Barbara shoots Viktor a fierce glare, uncharacteristic for someone like her, even during one of her typical quarrels with her brother.

Barbara: "Viktor spends a lot of his time lurking around the cathedral. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised he'd find out about Markus being sick. But if he already knew, then he must've planned this with that in mind!" She thinks to herself. "He's never had a high opinion of the knights, and Bro's always been open about his own negative opinions on Viktor and the Fatui. This must be some sort of ploy to damage Markus's reputation, or even the Knights of Favonius as a whole!"

Amber: "U-uh, Markus?" She utters to Barbara, surprised by the serious shift in her expression.

Barbara: "But I saw him leave the cathedral earlier... Why did we show up here first? Was he waiting for us to get here before him? Why? Was he not expecting me... er, Markus to show up?" She continues to think to herself. "Well, whatever the reason is, it doesn't seem like he's caught on to my disguise at least. If he didn't find out Bro was still in the cathedral when he was there earlier, then Sister Rosaria must've done something for him to leave before he found out. If that's true, then I really owe her. And for this disguise plan, too. Or else, Markus would've..."

Viktor: "Hey now, what are you spacing out like that for? If you don't think you can handle this after all, then feel free to return home. It's not like I was expecting much from the Knights of Favonius anyway." He sneers. "You may be a mere Outrider, but you're the Acting Grand Master's younger brother, yes? If her sibling's not capable of handling a simple mission like this, even while ill, then I'm sure she's not that impressive either, I'd imagine..."

Barbara: "Grr!"

Amber: "Hey, that's enough! Knock it off!"

Viktor: "What, are you both that rattled by such simple words?" He turns to Barbara, leering down at her. "So, what'll it be, boy? Are you going to back out?"

Barbara: "O-of course not!" She declares, crossing her arms with a huff. "As an Outrider, I take my duties very seriously! I'll escort you as I was tasked to... regardless of who you are!"

Amber's eyes widen at Barbara's sudden burst in confidence.

Viktor: "Is that so... very well." He gives an expression that makes it hard to tell if he's uncaring or upset by her response, before turning around. "Then let's be off. We're burning daylight here. No dawdling, you two."

He starts walking, Barbara and Amber following closely behind.

Amber: "Wow Barbara, that was amazing!" She whispers to her. "I didn't know you could act like that!"

Barbara: "Eh? Act...?" She blinks, a bit of her tension easing.

Amber: "H-huh?"

Viktor: "Hey, what're you two whispering about back there?!" He barks, glancing over his shoulder at them.

Amber: "U-uh, it's nothing!"

Barbara: "Don't worry, Markus. I don't know what Viktor is up to, but I won't let him sabotage anything you've worked so hard for." She says quietly, but her confidence not waning. "Rest easy, and leave this to me. It's my turn to protect you this time, Bro!"

--

The three slowly make their way toward Liyue, Amber leading them. The trip so far has been very quiet and awkward, especially for Barbara.

Amber: "Barbara, are you doing okay? I know you're not used to traveling this much..." She whispers to her with concern.

Barbara: "Don't worry, I'm doing alright! Thank you, Amber." She whispers back with a small smile, before glancing over at Viktor. "That's the least of my worries right now, anyway..."

Amber: "That's okay, I'm sure..."

Viktor: "Hey, you two!" He suddenly shouts at the both of them, before Amber can finish.

Amber: "U-uh, yeah? What is it?"

Viktor points at a pair of Hilichurls eating some apples together, near a small river.

Viktor: "Those two are an eyesore. Take care of them."

Amber: "But why? They're just minding their own business..."

Barbara: "And couldn't you just do something about it by yourself?"

Viktor: "Excuse me?! Is this how you Outriders treat your escorts? I should've expected as much from the Knights of Favonius!" He says with an overdramatic shrug.

Barbara clenches a fist, her jaw tight in irritation.

Barbara: "I'll take care of this, Amber."

Amber: "Are you sure? I can help if you..."

Before Amber can finish, Barbara steps forward and readies her bow, aiming an arrow at the Hilichurls.

Barbara: "I-I can do it... I practiced so much for this, in order not to put Markus's own efforts to shame..." She thinks to herself, focusing and steadying her breath. "For Bro's sake, I can't mess this up!"

She tries her best to put aside any unease or nervousness, putting her all into her shot. However, before she fires, her Vision glows, her shot imbuing with Hydro before it hits the Hilichurls.

Barbara: "E-eh?!"

Amber: "W-what!?"

Viktor: "... Hm?"

The shot barely misses the Hilichurls, scaring them away. However, instead of getting upset that she missed, Viktor calmly walks over to the fired arrow, it having pierced the ground, blue light still fading from its tip.

Viktor: "That shot... was it powered by Hydro? Strange..." He utters in genuine confusion. "I could've sworn you had an Anemo Vision, Markus..."

Barbara: "U-u-uh..." She stammers, frozen in place as Viktor slowly approaches her this time.

Amber: "U-um... wow! Good job, Markus! Using the river water like that to cause a Swirl reaction?" She suddenly cuts in and says with a nervous laugh. "What a brilliant idea! That's my junior Outrider, always thinking outside the box!"

Viktor: "Huh? Oh right, the river." He turns to the small strip of water, Barbara breathing a huge sigh a relief. "So that was why. You didn't destroy them like I wanted, but... whatever. Let's keep moving. We've wasted enough time here."

Amber: "But you're the one that wanted us to..."

Viktor: "What was that?!" He snaps at Amber.

Amber: "U-uh, nothing! Let's go!"

--

A while later, and the trip so far is going fairly smoothly.

They fend off a few more monsters along the way. Barbara's marksmanship is still rather clumsy, but she manages to help out Amber decently enough, enough to make a difference. Amber keeps the mood light and fun by guiding them past various landmarks, happily sharing interesting facts about each one, much to Barbara's fascination and delight. In any other situation, the journey would be a pretty enjoyable one...

... if the person they were escorting wasn't Viktor.

Amber: "And over there is Dawn Winery, known for its fine wine and..."

Viktor: "I didn't ask for a tour guide. Stop talking."

Amber: "O-okay..." She lets out a deep sigh, before turning to Barbara. "Barbara, I'm starting to get really bored..." She whispers to her.

Barbara: "I'm assuming this isn't how your escort missions normally go...?" She whispers back.

Amber: "Of course not, I normally love our escort missions! It's not just about guiding people from one place to another, enjoying the sights and scenery is... basically the best part! I want to help others outside of Mond experience what makes our region so great, y'know?"

Barbara: "Yes, and I think you've been doing a wonderful job so far, Amber! But... I'm sorry to say, but I think you're wasting your time with someone like Viktor..."

Amber: "Yeah, I noticed. But I figured it was still worth a shot..."

Barbara: "Besides, I still think he's got some ulterior motive for all this..." She thinks to herself, shooting a light glare towards his direction.

"Help! Someone please help me!"

They suddenly hear a man cry out from a distance, waving to them beside a tipped over cart.

Amber: "Oh no! I wonder what happened?"

Viktor: "Who cares? Ignore him. Focus on escorting me, as you should."

Amber: "We can't just ignore someone in need! Right, Mar-..."

Before Amber finishes, she realizes that Barbara has already made her way over to the man, not even bothering to wait for Viktor's approval on the matter.

Man: "W-we're traveling merchants, and our cart hit a large rock we happened to not notice, and tipped over. My companion injured his leg, could you please help him?"

Barbara: "Of course. I'll heal him right away."

She bends down near the other man, who is lying on the ground, holding his bleeding leg and wincing in pain. She holds out her hands in front of her, softly humming a hymn. Her Vision shines bright as a soft blue glow emanates from her hands, gently washing over his injury.

Wounded Merchant: "W-whoa, my leg... it's feels better already! Incredible!" He tries to get up, but tumbles a bit, the man and Barbara both helping to ease him back down.

Barbara: "Careful, sir. I just healed you, so try not to move that leg too much yet."

Merchant: "I see... alright. Thank you so much for your help, that's some healing power you've got!"

Barbara: "Don't mention it. I'm happy I could help!" She says with a gentle smile. "I'm glad your injury wasn't too serious."

Man: "Are you... a Knight of Favonius? Or..." He squints at her curiously. "Your healing ability, and your singing... It reminds me a lot of Sister Barbara from the cathedral."

Barbara: "U-uh... Um...!" She stammers, stiffening up in nervousness.

Merchant: "Come to think of it, you look a lot like her. Pale blonde hair, blue eyes..."

Barbara: "U-u-um! I-I..." She tilts her head nervously, beads of sweat forming on her brow.

Amber: "Hahah, of course he looks like Barbara! Don't you know who this is?" She cuts in smoothly, strolling up to Barbara with a grin, patting her on the back reassuringly. "This is Markus, Barbara's older brother!"

Man: "Oh yes, that's right! I remember now!" He nods in realization. "Yes, I've heard about you. Barbara's brother, who works as an Outrider for the Knights of Favonius."

Merchant: "It's no wonder you're so good at healing, then. It must run in the family!"

Barbara: "Y-yes, that's right!" She chuckles awkwardly. "A-and I imitate her hymns sometimes, to help me concentrate on my healing!"

Man: "Is that so? If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were actually Barbara herself in disguise or something!" He says with a hearty laugh. "Hah! I merely jest, of course!"

Barbara: "H-ha... hahah... Y-yeah, wouldn't that be crazy..."

Viktor: "Have you finished helping these dullards yet?!" He sharply cuts through the rather cheery moment. "You haven't forgotten about your actual duty, have you?"

Merchant: "Oh? And who might you be?"

Amber: "Uh, we're in the middle of escorting him to Liyue..." She utters, with unmasked lack of enthusiasm.

Merchant: "Truly? How fortunate for you, my good sir. To have such a dependable pair alongside you on your trip, especially Markus here."

Man: "Indeed, what a reliable young man! I'm sure he'll go on to be one of the finest Knights of Favonius, in all of Mond!"

Barbara: "Heheh..." She scratches the back of her head, smiling to herself, happy that she helped her brother receive words of praise.

Viktor: "Grr... This doesn't make any sense... He was supposed to be ill...!" He mutters, a bit louder than he intended.

Merchant: "Oh? You're not feeling well, Markus?" His eyes widen at the news.

Barbara: "U-uh, no! I mean... I'm okay! There's no need to be concerned..."

Man: "And you're still working to escort someone all the way to another region... And you even took the time to help strangers like us as well?!"

Merchant: "Astounding! You're even more selfless than we thought! Why, Lord Barbatos himself must look down upon you proudly!"

Viktor: "Mmmghgrr!" He clenches a fist and grits his teeth, turning away from them in anger.

--

Eventually, they finally make it to Stone Gate, their last stop on their escort mission before reaching Liyue.

Amber: "Barbara, how are you holding up?" She whispers to her again in concern. "We've been walking for quite a while... mostly because that jerk will barely let us rest."

Barbara: "That's okay, I'm doing just fine." She whispers back with a reassuring nod. "I'm definitely not used to walking this much in such a short amount of time, though. I've gained a lot more respect for Bro after today... and for you too, of course."

Amber: "Heheh, thanks! I'm glad today's mission has been going pretty well."

Barbara: "Yeah..."

Barbara glances over at Viktor, noticing his head twitching back and forth in a shifty manner.

Barbara: "Why's he looking around so... desperately?" She thinks to herself. "He's definitely up to something..."

Viktor: "Oh!" He exclaims randomly, pointing towards a small camp nearby. "I think those are Treasure Hoarders! We'd better be careful!"

Amber: "They shouldn't spot us from the path we're taking, so there's no need to wor-..."

Viktor suddenly decides to kick a small stone directly toward the campsite, which the Treasure Hoarders obviously notice.

Viktor: "Oops~!" He shrugs in an exaggerated manner. "Clumsy me!"

Barbara: "Are you kidding me?!" She throws her hands on her hips, eyes wide in anger and disbelief. "Are you so desperate to mess with us that you'd resort to something this childish?"

Viktor: "Like I said, it was an accident. Surely you aren't accusing me of trying to cause trouble on purpose? Feh, what a thing to say to the person you're supposed to be escorting."

Barbara glares at him harshly, barely holding back her frustration.

Barbara: "I need to calm down... especially for Markus's sake." She thinks as she exhales heavily. "But I'm getting so fed up with him!"

Amber: "U-uh, you guys?" She gestures toward the camp with a puzzled look. "They've definitely noticed us... but they're not really doing anything."

Among the three Treasure Hoarders huddled near a dying fire, one of them holds up the kicked stone weakly.

1st Treasure Hoarder: "... Oh, look. A rock..."

2nd Hoarder: "Is it... edible?"

3rd Hoarder: "No, you idiot... It's a rock."

They all sigh and slump back down.

2nd Hoarder: "B-but... I'm sooo hungry..."

Viktor: "Tch, it seems like they're too famished to move, or do much of anything. How unfortunate..."

Amber: "'Unfortunate'...? Don't you mean fortunate?"

Viktor: "Yes, that's what I said. You must've misheard."

Amber: "Uh huh..." She shrugs, not buying it.

Barbara: "Um, are you all alright?"

Barbara, meanwhile, has already approached the Treasure Hoarders, her eyes filled with worry. The three immediately notice the emblem on her attire, and start freaking out.

1st Hoarder: "A-are you... a Knight of Favonius?! O-oh no, please have mercy on us!"

2nd Hoarder: "Y-yeah, we haven't even done anything yet! Because we're too hungry to!"

3rd Hoarder: "Z-zip it, you moron!"

Barbara: "Would you like me to make some food for you?"

They all stare at her in stunned silence, obviously not expecting that response.

1st Hoarder: "T-truly...?!"

Barbara: "Of course! Let me look around for some ingredients I can use, and I'll get started right away." She says to them kindly, placing a pot she finds lying on the ground over the dim fire. "You don't mind if I use this, right?"

3rd Hoarder: "O-of course not! Thank you very much!"

1st Hoarder: "Ah, an angel has come down from Celestia to aid us in our time of need!"

2nd Hoarder: "It must be a reward for all the kind things we've done!"

3rd Hoarder: "We haven't done any kind things; we're thieves, you idiot. But... yes, thank you Lord Barbatos! We'll try to pray to you more diligently from now on... probably!"

Viktor: "Why is he helping them?! What a waste of time..."

Amber: "Ba-... er, Markus is really kind-hearted. He can't just abandon someone in need, even if they're Treasure Hoarders."

Viktor: "Hmph."

Amber: "And of course, his sister Barbara is very kind-hearted as well. She doesn't have to act at all when it comes to helping those in need." She thinks to herself, as she watches Barbara look for stuff to cook. "The kindness of both of them should easily shine through in a situation like..."

Barbara: "Ooh, Jueyun Chilis!" Her eyes sparkle with joy as she scoops up a bunch she finds growing nearby. "I always have to ask Bro to pick these for me, since they don't grow in Mond. I've never picked them myself before! And there's sooo many of them~!"

Amber: "... U-uh oh."

Barbara: "Yes, I'm definitely going to make some hot and spicy soup with these! It'll be great~!"

Amber can't bring herself to stop Barbara when she looks so overjoyed. She simply watches as Barbara tosses a bunch of Chilis and herbs she gathered into the pot.

1st Hoarder: "E-er, what are you making?"

Barbara: "Some spicy soup! My specialty~!"

3rd Hoarder: "T-that's... a lot of Jueyun Chilis..."

Amber: "H-hang on a second... Markus!" She finally blurts out, with a clear uneasy tone. "Aren't you... forgetting about something?"

Barbara: "Hm?" She looks down at the ingredients being prepared in the pot, before she responds, "Oh right, of course! How could I have forgotten about such a thing?"

Amber: "E-exactly... I hate to interrupt you when you're in such a chipper mood, but..."

Barbara: "I need to gather some water! Can't make soup without it!" She says, before spinning around cheerfully and skipping towards a nearby river.

Amber: "O-oh jeez..." She shakes her head and rubs her temple, as she lets out a big sigh.

As Viktor watches Barbara enthusiastically prepare the soup, he can't help but snicker.

Viktor: "What is that... liquid abomination of a meal he's preparing?"

1st Hoarder: "Uh, you're... with the Fatui, right? What're you doing with these Knights?"

Viktor: "I requested of them to escort me to Liyue. I figured the 'super reliable Knights of Favonius' would be able to handle such a simple task, but..."

He leans over, whispering in the Hoarder's ear.

Viktor: "To tell you the truth, the trip here's been awful. Their reputation is nothing but a joke. And look at what that one's doing now, acting like he's showing you kindness by offering you a meal... when really? It's his way of torturing you all in disguise. This is how the Knights truly are; they don't even see you as fellow human beings, just because you're Treasure Hoarders!"

The Hoarder simply blinks, raising an eyebrow.

1st Hoarder: "Well, I'm so hungry, I honestly couldn't care less about what his true intentions are. I'd even eat rock stew at this point, if that was what he was offering!"

Viktor: "W-what?!"

Barbara: "And... done! Help yourselves, everyone!"

Viktor: "Ugh, whatever. I'm sure it'll taste awful, anyway." He mutters to himself. "Then I could easily turn these Treasure Hoarders against..."

1st Hoarder: "Dee-licious~!"

Viktor: "... What."

2nd Hoarder: "Yeah! It's super spicy, but it's still really good~!"

Viktor: "... Huh?"

3rd Hoarder: "Not to mention, my nose was all clogged up earlier, but this soup helped clear it right up! How thoughtul of him to consider that, too~!"

Viktor: "MmmrghfurghgrrWHAT?!"

Barbara: "Of course, it's important to take your health into account when out and about, not just keeping your bellies full!"

Amber: "Oh, so that's what you were doing... Phew, what a relief..."

As Amber says this, Barbara takes some of the soup to try herself.

Barbara: "Mmm~ It's sooo good!"

Amber: "... Or maybe things just happened to work out in your favor..." She remarks with another shrug and a small smile.

Viktor: "What is this? Since when were you some kind of health nut, or healing specialist..." He pauses, his eyes widening in realization. "Wait a minute... There's that young Sister at the cathedral that's often taking in and healing patients, right? Isn't she your sibling? What was her name again...?"

Barbara suddenly freezes in place, while Amber can't help letting out a gasp.

Viktor: "C-could it be...?" His eyes narrow, as he inspects Barbara carefully.

She gulps, a nervous bead of sweat running down her face.

Viktor: "You learned some health tips from her?! You are her brother, so that does make sense!" He clenches his fist in clear anger. "Grr, of course! I should've expected this!"

Barbara and Amber both let out a deep sigh of relief.

Viktor: "Still, I heard you were more of a lover of sweet things, like Sunsettias... I didn't expect you to be an expert on spicy food..."

Barbara: "U-u-uh, as an Outrider, I can run into any kind of situation during my patrols, y'know? I can't just cook based on my own preferences!"

Viktor: "I don't know, it seemed like you were really into making that Jueyun Chili soup..."

Barbara: "U-um, heheh..."

Viktor: "Eh, whatever, who cares."

Barbara breathes another sigh of relief, glad he let it go.

Barbara: "That was close..." She thinks to herself, her heart racing a bit. "It'd be awful if I got caught for a reason like that..."

1st Hoarder: "Knight of Favonius... No, Markus, was it?" He suddenly gets up, facing Barbara with a serious expression on his face. "From the bottom of my heart, thank you for saving me and my companions."

3rd Hoarder: "We've decided to turn over a new leaf from here on out." He continues. "We'll turn ourselves over to the Millelith, and hand over everything we stole to them as well."

2nd Hoarder: "Well, it's not like we have that much stuff to hand over anyway..."

3rd Hoarder: "Shut it, you buffoon."

Barbara: "Um, I'm just happy if I was helpful to you in any way..."

1st Hoarder: "Oh, don't be so modest! I'm sure you'll grow to be one of the most impressive Knights of Favonius in all of Mond!"

3rd Hoarder: "Maybe even all of Teyvat!"

2nd Hoarder: "But aren't the Knights of Favonius only in the region of Mondstadt?"

3rd Hoarder: "I'm confident there are some outside of it... probably."

2nd Hoarder: "Probably?"

3rd Hoarder: "Also, Mondstadt is the city name, not the region's, you ignoramus."

2nd Hoarder: "You sure? I could've sworn..."

3rd Hoarder: "Shut up."

2nd Hoarder: "Okay."

The three gather up all of their belongings (what little they have), before they begin walking towards Liyue, Amber and Barbara waving after them.

Amber: "Good luck with your new lives, you three!" She shouts to them joyfully, as they disappear into the distance, the beautiful sunset glowing over their silhouettes as they...

Viktor: "Argh, what's with all this sappy nonsense?!" He cuts in angrily. "T-this wasn't what was supposed to happen at all!"

Amber: "Even I didn't expect the Treasure Hoarders to change their ways like that, but..." She pats Barbara on the back proudly. "That's just how my hard-working junior Outrider is, making a positive impact wherever he goes!"

Viktor: "Auugh! I can't take this anymore! I'm done!" He cries out one last time, before storming off towards Liyue himself.

Amber: "Huh? Where are you going, don't you need us to escort you the rest of the way th..."

Viktor: "This is far enough. Consider your 'mission' over, Knights of Favonius. Hmph."

Before he takes his leave, he glances back at Barbara.

Viktor: "Outrider Markus... I thought you were the weakest link among the Knights, but... clearly I was wrong. I won't underestimate you again."

As he turns back toward the road, Barbara places her hands on her hips, and proclaims,

Barbara: "No matter what happens, I'll always be there to protect the honor and dignity of the ones I hold dear to my heart! Don't you forget it!"

He flinches at Barbara's sudden confident declaration, but he doesn't turn to look at her again and keeps on walking.

Viktor: "It doesn't make any sense... He was supposed to be ill, murgh..." They hear him mumble before he's also out of sight.

Barbara: "P-phew..."

All of Barbara's built up tension from today's events rushes out all at once. She exhales deeply, nearly toppling over from sheer exhaustion... But thankfully, Amber manages to catch her before pulling her into a big hug.

Amber: "You did it~! I'm super proud of you, Barbara!"

Barbara: "I... really did! I can't believe it myself..." She says between heavily breaths. "But honestly, I think I might've just gotten lucky..."

Amber: "No way! Today's mission went as well as it did thanks to your efforts! And don't you forget it!"

Barbara: "Heheh... okay. Thank you, Amber..."

Despite herself, Barbara dozes off, while still in Amber's arms.

Amber: "Wow, she just... fell asleep. Fair enough, Outrider work is pretty exhausting, even when you're used to it... Not to mention having to put up with Viktor all this time..."

She smiles at her softly.

Amber: "But... you took charge of things so well, I barely had to step in at all. You've grown so much Barbara... if only Markus could've seen it."

She looks toward the sunset with a sigh.

Amber: "We've still got to get back sometime soon, or at least find somewhere to stay for the night. But... I'd feel bad about waking her up... What should I do...?"

She stands there, chuckling nervously to herself.

--

A short while later, Barbara stirs awake, finding herself inside of a gently swaying horse-drawn carriage.

Barbara: "W-whuh...?"

She fully opens her eyes, noticing she's nestled inbetween both Amber and Klee, who have been keeping her steady this whole time while she slept. Rosaria is there as well, off to the side, lounging quietly with her arms crossed.

Amber: "Oh, you're awake, Barbara! I hope you had a nice nap."

Klee: "You were sleeping so peacefully that it made Klee want to nap with you. But Klee had an important job to do, making sure you didn't hit your head!"

Barbara: "Huh? What are you doing here, Klee? And Rosaria? Wait... why are we in this carriage...?"

Amber: "I met up with the others on the way back. Which I was really grateful for, since you were starting to get... a little heavy to carry." She laughs nervously as she recalls the memory. "We met up with the merchants from earlier too, who offered to let us borrow their horse and carriage so we could get back home before it got too dark."

Barbara: "R-really? Then the one manning the carriage is..."

Kaeya: "Hiya, it's me, Kaeya." He cuts in with a grin, Barbara finally noticing him outside at the front, holding the reins. "Miss me?"

Barbara: "W-wait, it's you? But... why...?"

Kaeya: "Why not? I am the Cavalry Captain after all, so it only makes sense for me to steer our steed of transport, does it not?"

Rosaria: "Zip it." She deadpans at his dumb joke.

Amber: "By the way, since you met up with us so soon, does that mean you were all following us the whole time?"

Rosaria: "More or less. After I'd left the two of you earlier, I encountered Viktor at the cathedral. I managed to shoo him away before he noticed Markus was still there resting, but I figured he was up to no good, so I decided to follow him."

Amber: "But... why were Kaeya and Klee with you?"

Rosaria: "I... intended to tail him alone." She responds with a groan. "But these two insisted on coming along..."

Klee: "Mister Kaeya found out what was going on because Klee told him. I'm really sorry for blabbing, Klee didn't know it was supposed to be a secret..."

Amber: "That's okay, Klee." She says as she gently pats Klee on the head. "Thanks to you telling him, we have... our very own carriage driver, I guess...?"

Kaeya: "Hey, I was really worried about the two of you, you know. I didn't just tag along because I thought it would be fun." He says with a smirk.

Klee: "Klee came along because Albedo asked me to. He wanted to check on Markus again, but was also worried about you both too. So... he sent Klee to see how you were doing!"

Kaeya: "Can you believe that? Albedo didn't even trust the two of us to handle it ourselves. Isn't that such a shame, Rosaria?"

Rosaria: "I don't care."

Amber: "Well, everything turned out just fine. Barbara was amazing! She disguised herself as Markus perfectly!"

Barbara: "U-uh, I definitely wouldn't say 'perfectly', but..."

Rosaria: "I still can't believe the plan ended up working. Viktor isn't the brightest, but..."

Amber: "It wasn't just him, no one else we ran into realized it either. She wasn't seen through by anyone during the entire escort mission, including Viktor!"

Kaeya: "Yes, it was quite the impressive sight. I didn't know you had it in you, Sister Barbara. I'm glad I didn't miss out on such a spectacular performance."

Klee: "Barbara was sooo cool! Klee can't wait to tell Markus, he's going to be so impressed!"

Amber: "Uh huh! Markus is definitely going to be proud of you for what you did today!"

Barbara: "Yeah!" She smiles at the thought.

However, Barbara thinks about him sick in bed, and her smile instantly fades as she recalls the memory of the night before.

How Markus had come home late, eyes heavy, rubbing his temples with a groan. She'd been so excited to test her new spicy drink idea that she barely noticed how exhausted he was. She ended up dragging him into helping her almost all night.

Markus pushing himself so hard to the point of becoming ill from fatigue wasn't unusual at all, at least not enough that Barbara shouldn't have noticed. And Markus should have as well, of course. But, typical Markus, he pushed himself even further to help out his sister, and to help her with something like making a spicy drink of all things.

Barbara: "Knowing him, he definitely won't make a fuss about it when he gets better..." She thinks to herself, her head drooping down. "He'll probably pretend it never even happened..."

Amber: "Barbara, are you okay?"

Barbara: "... Actually, let's not tell him."

Amber: "H-huh?!"

Klee: "What, really? But why not?!"

Barbara: "It'd be nice to hear Bro praise me for once, but... That's not why I decided to do this. He's been working so hard, and he was so worried about this mission that he wanted to go even while sick. I just... wanted to help give him some peace of mind for once."

Amber: "Are you... sure?"

Barbara: "Yeah. Let's just tell him that you and some other Knights handled it instead. If he finds out what really happened, it might stress him out even more, which is the last thing he needs right now..."

Rosaria: "Hm, that's surprisingly mature of you. I'm impressed." She admits, a small but genuine smile on her face.

Kaeya: "Wow, a rare compliment from Sister Rosaria! I suppose that makes this all worth it."

Rosaria: "Hmph. I am the one who had the idea for the disguise plan in the first place, so I owe her that much... I suppose."

Amber: "Well... I guess if you really don't want to tell him, I promise not to say anything. But... going from one secret to another, huh?"

Barbara: "I'm sorry..."

Amber: "No, it's okay. It's... really mature of you, like Rosaria said. In fact, I think Markus would be even more impressed with you now... if we could only tell him about it."

Barbara: "Thank you, Amber."

Amber: "You were great as an Outrider, too! Want to give it a shot again? I'd love to partner up with you for another mission!"

Barbara: "... Absolutely not."
