Blender Bros. Guide / Written by me, CS-Masyet
In the far future, animals evolved into more intelligent and stronger creatures known as "Animalmen" and live alongside humans in peace. However, a group of Animalmen were experimented on and turned into "Cross-Animalmen", hybrid Animalmen with traits of two random animals. Calling themselves the "Zooligans" the Cross-Animalmen decided to get revenge on the humans by wiping all of them out and creating a world only for Animalmen. Thankfully, there is a group of Animalmen called the Cosmo Keepers who fight to protect the galaxy's peace, and have vowed to stop the Zooligans in order to save the world and mankind. In this game you play as Blender, a dog Animalman and the leader of the Cosmo Keepers. He fights by spinning his long ears at his foes, and has creatures called "Mini Bros." by his side as well, who he finds by travelling around the galaxy on his journey to stop the Zooligans.
(This synopsis of the game was written by me, relying on my memory of the game and a few Google searches of random sites to help jog my memory of this game's plot. It isn't perfect, because this game is pretty old and is pretty vague with its plot. I hope I did a good job explaining the plot regardless.)

Hello, I'm CS-Masyet and this is the written version of my guide of this game. Yeah, I put up the written version of this guide on my site, because I wrote so much I feel like it'd be kind of a waste to just keep this as notes. Also, sorry if the placement of this guide on this page looks kind of awkward-looking; I didn't really anywhere else to put it. Also, keep in mind that this guide may not be as detailed as the video version of this guide; there's only show much I can show and explain with just text after all.

Anyways, Blender Bros. is a game I loved as a child, and is still very dear to my heart today. I've noticed that this game barely has any guides and has barely any helpful information about it at all, so that's why I decided to make this guide. It seems as though the few people who have made guides of this game have only recently played the game and as such don't go into much detail about the game due to lack of knowledge. However, as I've had this game since childhood (yes, I still own my copy of the game), and spent a lot of time playing it, I know a lot about this game; a lot more than everyone else seems to. Upset that a more thorough guide was never created of this game, I decided to create one myself. So I've decided to share my knowledge of this game in hopes everyone can enjoy this game to its fullest potential, despite this game's vagueness and fairly badly translated text.

Part 1 - Title Screen & Main Menu: New Game, Load Game, Multiplayer
(Hey, I said I was going to be thorough; I wasn't joking. In fact this will probably give you a good idea of just how thorough and how much work I put into making this guide.)
New Game: Create one of two save files. Saves over old file if there is one.
Load Game: Continue or Load. There are checkpoints that'll appear in some levels that you can touch. By reloading the game and picking the "Continue" option you can start from the last checkpoint you reached in the game. This Continue save is separate from your regular saves, so the only way to delete it is to touch another checkpoint. As such it functions like a Quicksave. The Load option is the one you want to pick to load one of your saves normally. You can Delete or Copy your saves in this menu as well.
Multiplayer: Play Mini-Games with friends in this mode. I have no idea if you get anything for doing this because I've never done it before.

Part 2 - Cosmo Heaven Menu: Clear Time, Shop, Final Stage, Save, Select Stage, Mini Game Room, Mini Bros. Room
(Pretty much the Cosmo Keepers' main base. There a couple of interesting things you can do here.)
Clear Time: Shows your timed records in all of the levels you've played.
Shop: Buy music discs here. They're needed to evolve certain Mini Bros. They each cost 10 bones, which you are very common "currency" scattered throughout almost every level. The music you can buy here are Rock, Classic, and Reggae.
Final Stage: Secret for now!
Save: Save your progress in one of two save files. Other than the "Continue" checkpoint option mentioned earlier there is no other way to save so don't forget to come here to do it! You can load your saved progress by picking "Load Game" then "Load" in the main menu.
Select Stage: Lets you leave Cosmo Heaven to select another world to explore. Clearing worlds will open up more worlds to travel to. Beating these worlds is the main objective of the game, obviously.
Mini Game Room: Lets you play up to three "Mini Games" with three CPU players. Winning these games can earn you gems (1st: 5 gems, 2nd: 4 gems, 3rd: 2 gems, 4th: 0 gems). Getting 50 gems will earn you an extra heart, up to 7 more. While 10 hearts is max, you can still earn gems after this, but once reaching 50 again it will stay at 50 and not go any higher. Yes, I've confirmed this for myself and no, I will not be showing that in the video because that would take way too long to do. If getting more hearts this way seems like a pain, don't worry, because there is actually a much easier way to get more, which I'll explain later.
Mini Bros. Room: This allows you to check, evolve or trade away any of the "Mini Bros." you've collected during the game. I assume their name comes from a combination of "Pokémon" and "Mario Bros." The Pokémon part makes sense, but I've never understood the latter part. I'll explain more about what the Mini Bros. are later. The trade option can only be done by connecting with another player. Unforunately, I've never had a friend to play this game with so I don't actually know all that much about the trade mode. But personally, I think this option is kind of pointless anyways as there aren't even that many Mini Bros. and this game isn't even very long. Maybe it's to make the game more similar to Pokémon...?

Part 3 - World & Area Select
Choose a world to explore. Picking Cosmo Heaven will send you back to the Cosmo Heaven menu, but picking any other world will give you the option of exploring up to four areas (Shelltarl is an exception; it only has one area). The fourth area is always a boss fight of some sort instead of an explorable area.

Once you pick an area, you're given the option of what Mini Bros. to bring with you. You can only bring one. Before confirming which one to bring, you're given a description of what the Mini Bros. does. Oh, by the way, if you want to skip through text faster at any point during this game, you can just press the B Button. Anyways, once you've made your choice, you'll enter the area you've selected. If you want, you can also choose to not bring any Mini Bros. with you at all, but the only good thing you'll ever get out of this is that any new Mini Bros. you find will automatically be with you this way. A couple of areas give you the option of switching Mini Bros. during the level, especially late in the game, so I don't think doing this is really worth it. That being said, there are some areas where you may not be able to bring any with you even if you want to.

Part 4 - Blender's Controls & Moves
Blender has a few interesting things he can do. But first, let's get the more simpler, obvious stuff out of the way. Use the D-Pad for movement, and A to jump. Press B to perform your normal, spinning attack, which involves Blender spinning around like a... well, Blender (lol, get it?!). Press START to open up the pause menu; here you can either exit the level or check what your Mini Bros. ability is (if you have one). Press and hold L to use your "search ears" ability; the blue arrows point towards the stage's goal while the red arrows point towards a new Mini Bros. (if there aren't any new Mini Bros. in a stage the red arrow won't appear, obviously). Press the R button to perform an action with the Mini Bros. you brought with you into the stage, if you have one with you that requires it to use. To my knowledge, the SELECT button doesn't do anything while controlling Blender, or at all in the game for that matter.

Hold down on the D-Pad to crouch. Hold the B button until Blender starts to glow blue, then let go of B to unleash blue energy waves horizontally in both directions. Keep in mind that letting go of your charge while flying or swimming will just waste it (you can still charge for it while performing either action though, for some reason). While airborne (from jumping, not flying) press down on the D-Pad, and Blender will flip upside-down. If you keep him flipped by holding down he will land on his ears, and will use them as a spring to jump higher. You can use this to get to high places or to avoid some enemies' attacks. If you press B while airborne instead, Blender will perform a slower spinning attack, which you can use to help you descend more slowly if you constantly tap the button. If you press B while Blender is flipped around however (so, while holding down), you can do a fast, drilling attack; you'll fall down faster this way, but this way you can also safely land on top of most enemies as it'll take most of them out.

If you see any long, vertical bars you can grab onto them by jumping into them, and you can move up & down them with the D-Pad. You can get off of them by jumping off of them with A. By the way, unlike with flying and swimming, you can actually perform charged attacks while climbing something. Speaking of flying, you can fly around for a little while if Blender picks up a wing symbol; move around by pressing left & right on the D-Pad and constantly tap A to fly up and reach high areas.

Here I'll also talk about Blender's controls while driving, as they're quite different from his normal controls. Move left and right on the D-Pad to turn (up & down do nothing), and hold A to move forward. Let go of A or hold B to slow down or break. Press L to perform Blender's typical spinning attack (as far as I know this has no practical use while driving, but it's still something you can do, so I thought I'd still mention it). Press R to jump, which you can use to avoid some obstacles. Keep in mind that the L & R controls I mentioned only work in the main game; L & R do nothing in the Cosmoride mini-game (not that they'd be useful for anything, anyway).

Part 5 - Area & Area Object Info
Besides Mini Bros., there are a couple of collectables and other stuff about every area that I'd like to talk about. Yeah, I know you're probably dying to hear about the Mini Bros. by now, but don't worry I'll talk about them later, I promise.

Anyways, by far the most common collectables are bones, which you'll find by defeating enemies or find simply scattered around everywhere. As mentioned before, you need them to buy music discs to evolve certain Mini Bros.. You can carry up to 99 bones at once, which is honestly a weird max amount considering how much the discs cost... but whatever. And no, collecting bones doesn't have any other benefit, not even gaining extra lives or something like that.

Hotdogs are what Blender eats to recover hearts in this game. The small ones restore one heart and the big ones restore all of your hearts. There is also a special yellow/golden hotdog found only in First Heaven's 2nd area. You can find it near the end of the area atop a fairly high platform that requires Biyoyo to reach. Picking this up will fill your hearts and will give you an extra heart as well. This will respawn every time you re-enter the level so you can keep coming back to get as many extra hearts as you want, up to 7 extra ones (yes, this is the easier method of getting extra hearts that I mentioned before).

The Cosmo Heaven symbols you see floating in almost every area are the checkpoints I mentioned earlier. As I said previously, you can select the Continue option from the main menu to start the game from this point. It'll also save any progress, including bones & Mini Bros. collected, when touching the checkpoints so be careful when selecting this option. In case you're wondering, I never feel the need to pick this option but you can if you want.

The small, "Blender's face" symbols are extra lives you can collect. This is the only way to get more lives, and they aren't as numerous as you'd think, so be careful. By the way, if you get a Game Over, you'll lose all of the bones you've collected. It's not that big of a deal since they're really easy to find, but if you're afraid you'll Game Over soon and want to save your bones, spend them on music discs first as you won't lose those after Game Over-ing.

The square pads with circling yellow and blue arrows is a Mini Bros. switching pad. This is what you can use to change your Mini Bros. during a level. This will also recharge the abilities of Mini Bros. with limited-use abilities. This is, of course, a very useful thing to keep an eye out for when exploring pretty much any area of the game.

There are multiple switches scattered throughout the game which have a variety of different effects depending on the area you're in. If a blockade is blocking your path, it most likely means you need to press on a switch to get by it. The switch won't always be near what thing it affects, and sometimes may need to be hit by a red orb to hit it. Red orbs are those things that kind of look like eyeballs and can be picked up by pressing B. You can throw it in front of you by simply hitting B again, or you can throw it into the background area by holding up on the D-Pad first, to hit enemies or switches.

There are also a few other objects that you can interact with, like the shoe-looking symbol which lets you charge at things at high speeds for a limited time (also makes you mostly invincible as well), and the wing-looking symbol which allows Blender to fly around for a limited time (the latter of which I already mentioned previously). I probably missed some stuff but I'm sure I at least covered the important things. I'll save the rest for my playthrough of the game.

Part 6 - Mini Bros.
Finally, arguably the most interesting part of this game, the Mini Bros. You start with one, and can get more by finding them scattered throughout different areas of the game, or by evolving them.

To evolve a Mini Bros., play it music with the discs you bought at the shop. Which music you should play may not be obvious, so you may waste some discs when trying to evolve a Mini Bros.. Fortunately, the game will tell you which music won't work on a Mini Bros. once you've tried it at least once (even if you're trying it on another one of the same kind of Mini Bros. a second time), so you won't have to worry about wasting the same music discs on one Mini Bros. over and over again if you end up forgetting which music they don't like. In the case of Mini Bros. with 3 stage evos, it will remember what discs do work as well. If a Mini Bros. isn't capable of evolving or can't evolve further, the game will stop you and will tell you that you can't evolve it.

To get back Mini Bros. you lost (from evolving them), simply go back to the area you found it in before (or in the case of 3 stage Mini Bros., find its pre-evo and evolve it the same way you did before). Keep in mind that it's impossible to have two of the same Mini Bros. at once, even for evolving purposes. Which means that they won't ever respawn before you evolve them, and you can't evolve a 1st stage Mini Bros. into a 3rd stage if you already have its 2nd stage. You'll have to evolve the 2nd stage to the 3rd stage, then evolve the 1st stage to the 2nd stage, then go back and get the 1st stage again if you want to have all three at once. This method is important to remember because it's one of the things you need to do in order to get Chronowar, the last Mini Bros. You need to have obtained every single other Mini Bros. in the game first, and I don't mean you have had to have had every Mini Bros. at least once; you need to have all of them at the same time (even if that means having ones with redundant abilities).

Now that I'm done explaining all that, I'll now tell you about all of the MIni Bros., how to obtain them, and what they can do.

- Malen = Oasis 3, Heals 1 HP (30~ seconds recharge time)
- Polen = Evolve Malen (Classic CD), Heals 1 HP (20~ seconds recharge time)
- Melen = Evolve Polen (Reggae CD), Heals 1 HP (10~ seconds recharge time)
(Yeah, even though Malen isn't the first Mini Bros. you obtain, it's first in the Mini Bros. list for whatever reason. Anyways, from the few LPs I've seen, the Malen line seems to be a popular favorite among other people, but I personally don't think they're all that useful. Sure, they're technically infinite use, but even Melen's recharge time is too long in my opinion, given how short each area is and the abundance of swap pads in later levels. Malen is especially bad, given she's tied with freaking Chronowar at having the slowest recharge time, at 30 whole seconds. Even when playing 3 heart only runs of this game, I think there are a lot better options.)

- Nuckle = Starter/First Heaven 2, Attack Assist
- Backle = Evolve Nuckle (Reggae CD), Good Attack Assist
- Banuckle = Evolve Backle (Rock CD), Great Attack Assist
(The starting line of the game... that for some reason isn't at the beginning of the list. Well, whatever. Personally, I like using Banuckle the most when playing the game. It's very reliable given you're pretty much always able to use it, and it has no recharge time or limited uses either. And, of course, you're able to get it very early in the game. Oh yeah, by the way, the Nuckle line can help you attack things in unexpected situations, like while drilling downward, flying, or even while you're swimming in water, even though Blender himself can't in the latter two situations, which is pretty neat.)

- Blon = Diva 3, Shields 1 Damage (20~ seconds recharge time)
- Silva = Evolve Blon (Rock CD), Shields 1 Damage (10~ seconds recharge time)
- Goldo = Evolve Silva (Classic CD), Shields 1 Damage (5~ seconds recharge time)
(The "barrier" line, aka the line that's pretty much the reason I never bother ever using the Malen line. I mean, why bother having something to heal hearts when you can have something that prevents you from losing hearts in the first place? Not to mention Goldo's recharge time is only 5 seconds, half that of Melen. If I'm ever in an area where I know I won't have to fight anything, this is the one I almost always use.)

- Neon = Shelltarl, Lights up dark areas (lasts 15~ seconds, 7~ seconds recharge time)
(Neon, the Mini Bros. with the weird recharge time, and the only Mini Bros. actually required to beat the game. You'll need this one to get through the dark areas of Shelltarl and other areas in the game. Also, another rather "interesting" piece of trivia regarding Neon: Apparently, it's described as a female in the instruction booklet. But in the game, it's evolution, Yoobie, is described with male pronouns... I don't get it either.)

- Biyoyo = Fog 1, Acts as a vertical platform that Blender can ride on (lasts 5~ seconds, 10~ seconds recharge time)
(One of the most useful Mini Bros. in the game, Biyoyo helps Blender in a rather unique way. Instead of helping in combat, it helps you reach high up areas instead. You need Biyoyo to obtain things that would normally be impossible without his help, like Nuckle or the golden hotdog.)

- Puwape = Oasis 1, Acts as a platform that Blender can ride on while in water (No Recharge Time)
(The first obtainable Mini Bros. in the game, and is one a the few Mini Bros. with unlimited uses and no recharge meter. However, since there aren't that many water areas in this game, it isn't actually all that useful. Which is a shame, because I think its ability is kind of interesting. While Puwape may not be that great, its evolution...)

- Spish = Fog 3, Gives Blender a speed boost attack that damages foes (lasts 5~ seconds, 10~ seconds recharge time)
(In other words, this lets Blender use that ability that he normally can only get from touching those shoe-symbol things, which is pretty neat. This is actually one of the more useful Mini Bros., which makes it so unfortunate that it isn't obtainable until fairly late in the game. Fighting some bosses, even the later ones, with this Mini Bros. is pretty fun though.)

- Gallia = Millitar 3, Creates a bubble around Blender that makes him completely invincible for a while (lasts 5~ seconds, 10~ seconds recharge time)
(Pretty much a more useful version of Goldo. Unfortunately, like Spish, it's a late-game Mini Bros. so you'll barely get a chance to use it. One of the few that can't evolve at all.)

- Banbo = Cosmo Heaven 1, Explosion attack that damages all foes on screen for 1 HP (5 uses per stage/Mini Bros. swap)
(The latest obtainable Mini Bros., excluding Chronowar. And it's obtainable in... your home base of Cosmo Heaven. I... don't get it either. Anyways, for a late-game Mini Bros., its ability isn't all that great, actually... At least it has a lot of limited uses...? Like Gallia, it can't evolve.)

- Booyan = Evolve Biyoyo (Rock CD), Splits up into 4 and surrounds Blender in a circle, damaging any enemy that touches the circle (lasts 5~ seconds, 15~ seconds recharge time)
(Evolves from Biyoyo. Having a Mini Bros. that surroundes you and damages enemies sounds really interesting... which makes it a real shame Booyan is so bad. It's too slow, its recharge time is too slow, and its ability doesn't last long enough. What could've been an interesting alternative to Banuckle just ended up being a disappointment.)

- Yoobie = Evolve Neon (Reggae CD), Calls an ally that will heal Blender for 1 HP, 2 HP, or all HP (1 use per stage/Mini Bros. swap)
(Evolves from Neon. Acts like a fairy in Zelda pretty much... with luck involved. Being revived with only one HP may not seem all that great, but the fact that it can revive at all is pretty nice, especially since it's the only thing in this game that can do something like that. While I never bother with Yoobie anymore, I used to use it all the time when fighting bosses I found to be really tough. If you're also having trouble with some bosses in this game, I'd recommend giving Yoobie a try at least once, especially if you're doing a 3-heart run, as that's an at least 1/3 health revive. Also, for some reason, the game tells you that you can use its ability early by pressing R... even though you can't. It's an auto-effect only.)

- Icyoo = Evolve Spish (Rock CD), Ice attack that does 2 damage to foes (3 uses per stage/Mini Bros. swap)
(Evolves from Spish. This one is... unique. Yeah, that works. It's the only Mini Bros. that can do more than one damage to anything at once, which is interesting I guess. And since it gets to use its ability three times, it technically is able to do more damage to foes than any other limited-use Mini Bros., even Banbo and Cyupy... But that doesn't mean it's super useful. Remember, it can only be used three times, so unless you find a swap pad somewhere, it's completely useless afterward. Also, that "ice attack" description doesn't really mean much, as elmental attacks aren't really a thing in this game and it doesn't actually freeze anything, it just does raw damage. Also, since it evolves from Spish you get it late in the game, too. It does a lot of damage in a short amount of time though, so it's not completely useless, but it's super situational...)

- Cyupy = Evolve Puwape (Classic CD), Damage enemy for 1 HP, then heals Blender for 1 HP (5 uses per stage/Mini Bros. swap)
(Evolves from Puwape. This one is arguably one of the most OP Mini Bros. in the game, and since it evolves from Puwape, you can get it really early in the game, too. With its numerous uses, you can destroy even bosses with ease, without having to worry about any damage taken in the process. Not to mention, since it has no recharge bar, it can even be a more reliable healer than the Malen line. Unsurprisingly, because of how useful it is, this one is another one of my favorites.)

- Chronowar = Varies; Most likely only in levels where you don't find other Mini Bros. in, Stops time for everything but Blender for a short time (lasts 5~ seconds, 30~ seconds recharge time). I've confirmed that it can appear in: Oasis 2, Cosmo Heaven 3, Fog 2, and Millitar 1. Excluding the last one you'll have a lot of difficulty obtaining it without Biyoyo's help. Also by this logic you should be able to find Chronowar in Diva 1 and Millitar 2 as well, but I've never confirmed this, so don't take my word for it. You can use the search ears to find it just like the other Mini Bros.
(The last obtainable Mini Bros. in the game, and it's an... interesting one. It isn't super useful unfortunately, given that its ability only lasts five seconds and takes a whopping 30 seconds to recharge. Its ability is pretty unique so you could have some fun with it, I guess. And since you can technically get it before the final boss, it may be able to help you with that as well... although I personally wouldn't recommend it. Give it a try if you want to, though.)
